Mr. Butts: Wow... look at all those underage customers! Their home states must be so ashamed! Hi, folks! Are your kids still not hip to the dangers of smoking? Well, don't be blaming it on Big Tobacco! In the Great Tobacco Settlement of '98, we pledged $206 billion to the states to fund anti-smoking campaigns! So is that what the stated used the money for? Of course not! This year only 1.9% of the windfall was spent on prevention. The rest was spent on everything from potholes to tax relief to building jails! Nine states have issued bonds backed by future payments! So if kids aren't aware of the dangers of smoking, don't blame us! We trusted the states to get the word out! Boy: Wait... smoking is dangerous? Mr. Butts: See? Thanks, New Jersey! Thanks, Rhode Island! Thanks et al!
States suck! I know. I’m from New Jersey. Not even the lowest gas prices in the country ($2.57/gal for me yesterday) can make NJ not suck.
