Zonker, deal with it. She wants to be a part of the real world.

Zonk DID just drop acid. Uncle Duke’s influence, of course.

Zonker is tripping, so can’t share in Joanie’s big day appropriately…

He would be awed and happy for her, but apparently he just visited with Uncle Duke, which means that maybe he has an altered state of consciousness. Those were the days. The days before meth, huffing paint and glue, bath salts and all the ugly stuff. People only thought hippies were crazy. Hippies mostly smoke weed, tiny bit of acid here and there, a little coke thrown in on special occasions. It was different. Not that I think driving and doing any of the stuff from the past or now is a good idea. You need all your faculties to drive. I just had some intense driving in intense sunlight. Bad news.

The bad news I was referring to was the sun blindness bad news. At least it tends to only last for a little while, then you get past it as you go through the peaks and valleys of shadows vs sunlight on the hilly streets around here.

@agrestic (from yesterday)—I saw a picture of the seat in one of the books; I believe it just had a card with her name and maybe a mortarboard.

I remember this original sequence from mumbledy-mumble years ago. At the time I thought of Zonker as a perpetual student – taking classes year after year with no end in sight. I interpreted this as his shock that someone he liked actually had GRADUATION in mind, following it with a CAREER. I seem to recall a previous strip in which he was stunned to hear of Joanie’s upcoming graduation and frantically tried to talk her out of it.

Then again, drugs may be playing a part.

Here’s something else. I’m unfamiliar with law school, but is three years a reasonable time to obtain a degree? It seems a bit fast for me. I’m very impressed with Joanie’s accomplishment.

A sweet friend of mine just did the same thing. She says that lawyers start out decent people – Then they take the BAR!

Gosh, I read all these comments and that was not at all what was going through my head (I take all the Zonk stuff for granted).I was thinking he must have been freaked that she actually went through school and graduated so quickly (unlike Zonk and his nephew Zip).Or, think about it—Joanie had just had her first romantic interlude with Rick when we last saw her. Now this is 3 years later. Does he think by “kid” she is referring to something(one)… else… and not herself?
