I can empathize, having narrowly escaped a frame by a small town government a few years before this strip ran (my own personal ’Alice’s Restaurant’; the full story takes about twenty minutes to tell properly). “They” found about a quarter ounce of Nebraska-No-High in the glovebox (possession of any quantity was a felony in that time and place); within a week they had, with no knowledge on my part and no further evidence, turned me into a heroin dealer, along with adding several other charges which were not mentioned at my arraignment. On a technicality, all charges other than simple possession were eventually dropped, and I got off with six months probation. I was supposed to report for induction the day I went to court; the judge’s last comment was “Let the Army have him”.
