Even if traveling back in time were possible, it would certainly not change our timeline, and the technology / energy to travel through time would be enormous, especially if we would want to make a difference to our present world which would require even more energy because of how old our civilization would be by then to invent such technology that is not even comprehensible to humans now.
Plus you would need a very large battery to get back, and since we are assuming that time travel will only take a ton of power the battery would have to be efficient enough to time warp itself back, plus the time machine itself

I vote for option three. There is time travel, and people keep on screwing everything up.
