It doesn’t matter what you give someone from Marketing, they’ll stir it around until (they think) it makes them look good to the PHBs.
My favorite Marketing anecdote: The marketeer spend several $thousands sending out a survey to all our customers asking then what they liked, what they wanted, and a few other open ended questions. Then he called us all together to give his report. I forget what he said, because I noticed a different pattern: “37.5% of the respondents liked ‘A’ and 75% of them wanted ‘B’ and 87.5% disliked ‘C’ and 12.5% loved ‘D’…”
I asked, “So how many surveys were returned?” There was a long pause before he replied “Eight.” (At that time, our customer list had about 1000 or so entries). Our very own PHB was there… Soon, the marketeer was invited to succeed elsewhere.
