In our company no one person was in that position for long before being given their walking papers.

That’s a pretty good spell the PHB is casting.

Should have used Tim as a distraction and given it to the Pointy Haired Boss.

Director of Special Projects. That has a distinct sound of “Screw up and your fired.”

Director? I wonder if that makes him Dilberts “dotted line” boss and the Doom cloud will start zapping Dilbert instead of just hanging around over his head? I detest “dotted line” assignments. An engineer can not server two managers.

Some organizations actually contract a “designated fall guy” for a doomed project. Because he’s “temp”, the doom won’t follow him around for the rest of his career. :)

At my first company we went through a lot of vice presidents (very small company, CEO had very big ego). They would come in to run marketing or something, then be “promoted” to VP of Future Projects, and then be shown the door. We called the position VP of Big Deals, and we had a lot of them while I worked there.

Tim reminds of the ECG portion of a cardio nuclear stress test.

I remember one situation when I was about to leave a company for a different job. They wanted to keep me, and were willing to make me Sr. Director of Special Operations Projects … I didn’t take it, and some my friends agreed with that because of the inherent dangers of having a title and job which really didn’t mean anything.

Those projects are dreamed up by the PHB, so they are very “Special”.

Ah. So this is Tim, ehh? I think I mis-identified him a few strips back as Asok, No matter. He is doomed to be the next wearer of the Doom Cloud, though I’d like to see PHB wear it….
