Guess it depends on the type of work you do. 40 years ago when I was hired (millwright) I was told I would get top shop rates just as soon as I could be called in after hours, given a task and complete it without help from the “office”. Took 2 weeks to make it to top shop rates. But those were the days when working 15~ 20 hours straight was expected and weekends happened, perhaps, every 4 months.
