I thought Spirit would have mimicked Doubleup when he referred to the doorstop. The doorstop!

The first 10 issues of Scarlett Sting comic book might have fetched a very hefty sum for Doubleup to become the doorstop of Perenelle

“… like flies to a honey pot” is, I think, how the full saying goes.

Today dinged the ‘semi-serious’ tone of the story just a little, hopefully the boys don’t go too ‘Meta’ or ‘Inside’ with their material.

    .

Still hoping to see ‘The Spirit’ fight ten men all at once at some point, as it’s sort of his forte.

A little more on that …

    .

Not sure if it was in Steranko’s HISTORY OF COMICS, or in an essay by Jules Feiffer elsewhere (… possibly in THE GREAT COMIC BOOK HEROES) but it was once observed that, while Batman could occasionally be knocked out by a wild punch from – Oh, say The Joker, for example – ‘The Spirit’ usually needed to be literally buried with adversaries before he’d go down.

    .

… and he’d always go down fighting.

Someone who’s so disposed might wish to amend the “Perenelle In Fiction” section of her wikipedia page to include her appearance in Dick Tracy …

    .

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Perenelle_Flamel

    .

Something along the lines of …

    .

"Perenelle Flamel appears as a character in a crossover story between Will Eisner’s ‘The Spirit’ and Chester Gould’s ‘Dick Tracy’ in the long-running Dick Tracy comic strip.

Be sure to check out Nancy today – Sluggo tries on various “comic strip hats”, one of which is Tracy’s. He also adopts the classic, “talking into his wrist” pose!

If you’re talking about inconsistent names, how about the fact that Tracy says “Double up” in two words? Hasn’t it always been “Doubleup” in a single compound word?

The scam mentioned in Crimestoppers is not just email. Several of my older friends have received phone calls with the same scam. One of them didn’t exactly fall for it, but was convinced that the call was about his son and namesake.

The reason why Doubleup is a big fan of The Scarlet Sting is explained starting with this 2015 strip:

Finally seeing a bit of The Spirit’s personality, before this he’s just been a guy in a hat and a mask.

I figure that Perenelle – understanding after more than 600 years the potential value of collectibles – bought those comics (among others) on the newsstand.

Give Doubleup the first ten issues of The Scarlet Sting comic book in mint condition and he’ll do your bidding.

How can you not like it that big (really big) bad DoubleUp is happy to be paid in comic books?! Issues 1 through 10 of the Scarlett Sting, in mint condition, no doubt have great monetary value, but it is the sheer delight in ownership that has bought DoubleUp’s services as bodyguard to Perenelle (sic).

The Spirit wisecracks, as is his wont, while Tracy is more grimly business-like. And indeed the Spirit’s remark in the last panel is self-referential for Tracy and his Rogues Gallery of Weird Villains. This adventure is fun!

It is permitted to laugh. Loosen up, Tracy!
