    Three panels, three things today:

So, Jimmy is definitely dead. Of that there is no question.

We are not done with the gold yet, whatever that means. I suppose it means that we know it has not disappeared forever into the salt mine or something like that, at least.

Before we even mention the gold again, we are going to have a short visit with Honeymoon as she welcomes Annie for a summer visit. I think this is a sneak peak at the longer story to come right after we find out what happened to the gold.

The stolen gold still has a part to play! Makes me think of how Mr. Bribery’s hundred grand cash, leftf floating in space during the ’60’s led to a great story later that introduced Mr. & Mrs. Chin Chillar!

The “Jimmy Choo Shooz” entry cries out for a cause of death, “Sucked into undertow at Lake Pratchett” or somesuch.

That said, how best to summarize Mrs. Flattop’s demise?

“Flattened by 70 Pound Film Cannister?"

How long before someone with a metal detector finds the gold at where Lake Pratchett USED to be? Being the scavengers people can be, I can imagine SOMEONE (and not necessarily a “good citizen” might stumble on it accidentally. Perhaps sparking both a gold rush and a riot?

The new storyline is supposedly to begin 21 June, and feature Annie et al. in a tale against bullying; so I’ll see today’s panel 3 as a prelude/prologue/overture. I’m not sure when the gold bars will again become pertinent, on the other hand. Or maybe the next two weeks should be transitional, since there is plenty still to resolved in this present story—what happens with Ted and his house that went slip-sliding away? What about DoubleUp and Blaze? Or Axelrod? Or the international repercussions of the non-recovery of the gold (so far)? Will Jimmy’s body be recovered? …So many lingering questions.

I’m surprised that Annie has returned, too. One crossover is the kind of fun that I expect from time to time, but two storylines would seem like a clear statement that they take place in the same universe. Though I guess she would fit in a school bullying plot.

Annie has no patience for bullies and can lick ones twice her weight. I worry that Daddy Warbucks has lost his money again, (as was the rhythm of her strip) requiring Annie to move in with friends for a few months.

I think I’ll stick with my guess that Tracy found the gold after following the tunnel Mole had pointed out to him.Jimmy’s crew weren’t rocket scientists, so they probably stashed it some place close by, and covered it with sand and some bushes.Tracy could have located the gold, and simply brought it back the way Jimmy took it out – via the hidden tunnel. Then no one (even Ted) would notice the gold’s movement.Maybe Tracy is hoping to use the gold as bait for the Blackhearts (if they think it hasn’t been recovered, they’ll start looking).

IMHO Annie should be adapted for television … an hour long weekly drama (not a musical) … it almost writes its self. I also think the syndicate should revive it for newspapers and digital format. Dick Tracy would also be a great TV show.

To “claim” someone’s life is a euphemism for saying “they have died”.-————————————You and I know that, but, just like Stiletta, there are those who won’t believe it until the body is found, and Tracy says, “Yep. Jimmy’s dead.” and Sam says, “Jimmy who?”

Today’s strip comes as something of an exemplar of the RAPID pacing some have ‘missed’ … (too often?) . . . in the past . . .

Panel 1: A Cauldron of Lake Bubbles ‘appropriately’ expressing the remaining “uncertainty” of a number of outcomes, that may (or may not?) be reported in the future,,

Yes Jimmy Choo Shooz is dead, and we can assume that’s the end of the Salt Mining operation and likely the Drilling Operation for now. While Tellum, if we ever see him again(?), will have to build a new Home and Studio.

Panel 2 : Might have more ‘appropriately’ come with a Question Mark . An indicator that the ‘whereabouts’ of the Gold remains (for now) an ‘elusive’ Mystery. It’s apparent this will be on HOLD for now, as we turn to . . .

Panel 3: The promised ‘development’ (and Bullying incident) with Honeymoon apparently to be joined by the “experienced” Orphan Annie (In Shorts and all?)Likely a sequence prior to the Blackhearts event, that everyone will enjoy !

The whereabouts of the GOLD Bullion remains a DEEP Mystery, but let’s “consider” some helpful “known” factors on this - in a ‘separate’ post . . .

Sydney PhillipsReally “inconceivable”, that this past “look-a-like” robbery, would not be referenced by ALL the Media ?-————————————Jeez Louise, Syd. Get real.Even Tracy hadn’t heard of the 1924 gold heist, and crime is his specialty! You expect every reporter in town to know about a crime 91 years earlier? I’d be surprised if any of them heard of it.Heck, George W. Bush had a press secretary who’d never heard of the Cuban Missile Crisis!Dana Perino, now on FOX News, admitted, “I actually panicked a bit” when a reporter referred to it in a question. Later, she asked her husband “wasn’t that like the Bay of Pigs thing?”If a real person in an important job like that knows squat about recent US history…

MorrowWhat did the drilling company do that was harmful?-————————————————Well, let’s see…They didn’t do their homework, or they’d have know that there was a salt mine operating directly below them. (it was obviously operating longer than the drilling rig, as the drill came down into an established tunnel.)So they should be held financially responsible for destruction of the mine and all the mining equipment, as well as recklessly endangering the lives of the miners. On top of that, anyone whose private property was destroyed as a result of their bungling have a rock-solid case against the drilling company. And the city or state (whoever has the authority for the lake and river) can nail the driller’s butt to a wall for the costs of removing the debris, and the repairs to the lake, and the pumping of the salt mine, and…And that’s the short list.— Having a permit only means they won’t have “operating without a permit” added to the offenses.I don’t think the drillers were “trying to make the country independent from buying foreign oil – and provide fuel for your Lamborghini.” I’ve yet to learn of an oil company more interested in patriotism than money. And the only Lamborgini you’ll ever see linked to my family is the metal toy I’d bought my son years ago.

Annie’s back! A welcome surprise, and looking forward to this crossover with Honeymoon.

Hmm, the missing gold is still in play, since Jimmy met his watery demise after killing of his cohorts.

Since we had the Mole involved in this storyline, I have to wonder if there would be storyline using Honeymoon, Annie, and Toad? On a tour of the tunnels, they pick up a trail that leads them to the gold? Three teenage sleuths cracking the stolen gold caper!

    Well, wishful thinking, I guess.

    Get to smile . . . when you post ‘sometimes’ . . . ;- )

And wonder which finger you put up in the Air, or how DEEP a “breath” you take, before ‘judging -’ the ‘passage’ of TIME in our strip ?

Get the ‘sense’ there may be a little inconsistency . . .Maybe? A ‘studied’ variance of perspective ? . . .

Like. in one ‘breath’, everything that happened in this story - occurred in no more than 2 days ?While, in the second “inhalation”, you ‘raise the roof’ that Tracy could somehow remember a crime as ‘far back’ as 1924 ?Sort of rocks the boat? World War 1, was already over, some six years before !

Recall, Tracy became a Detective in 1931, So was on the cusp of becoming a young adult when that earlier Gold Crime ‘was’ BIG News !It was a time when there was no TV or Internet, and ‘everyone’ read the papers, perhaps just for Dick Tracy ?

Annie is not a “regular character” more of a guest star.

At this point, she’s no more of a guest star than Vitamin Flintheart and B.O. Plenty. She has been adopted into the Dick Tracy cast of characters.

Mike Curtis: “We feel Annie and her cast are part of the Tracy world and we’ve added her to the story as a friend of Honeymoon’s.”

I will write more on this in tomorrow’s strip comments.
