I don’t think Audrey Hepburn would be even slightly amused.

Awesome! On my bookshelf are two volumes containing the total Don Martin oeuvre. He was the soul of Mad magazine for me. Horace is the reincarnation. His walk in panel one is perfect! Thank you, sir, for this gorgeous homage.

I loved it, have to be honest though forgot Don Martin’s name. I am losing what little mind I had. As many know my loving wife died in March and grief brain is real.

Needed a cameo from Fester and Carbuncle. Or at least one hinged foot.

A fitting tribute to a great magazine and artist of yesteryear. At the risk of stating the obvious, they don’t make ’em like that any more.

Audrey’s mother was a Dutch noblewoman. The family remained in the Netherlands, mistakenly thinking the Germans would respect the country’s neutrality as during WWI. After the Allied landing on D-Day, living conditions in the Netherlands grew worse, and Arnhem was subsequently heavily damaged during Operation Market Garden. During the Dutch famine that followed in the winter of 1944, the Germans blocked the resupply routes of already limited food and fuel supplies as retaliation for railway strikes that were held to hinder German occupation. Like others, Hepburn’s family resorted to making flour out of tulip bulbs to bake cakes and biscuits; a source of starchy carbohydrates, Dutch doctors provided recipes for using tulip bulbs throughout the famine. Hepburn developed acute anaemia, respiratory problems and oedema as a result of malnutrition. She had a weak constitution, and could not gain weight for the rest of her life. Her last ballet master told her to quit because she had no stamina and that she might be better suited for acting. It is thought that the time of starvation/malnutrition contributed to her final illness. She was, and is a fashion icon. My favourite movie of hers is “Sabrina.”

Looking at this again, I have to give “Don” Samson kudos for the looks on the faces in the middle panel, of the second row. And for the stance of the waiter in the middle panel of the third row. Those are exactly as Don Martin would have drawn them. Thanks for the laughs and the memories!
