I learned, long ago, that if a child asks me about something, I ask him or her, “Tell me what you heard, then we can discuss it from there.” I have found, that if the child was told something “nasty,” it turns out not to be as graphic as it sounds, since whoever told the child probably did not understand it any better than a child would.
