Petey: BLOAT Petey: AGH Petey: My comic book warped! Mom: Humidity is nature's way of saying, "Petey, go play in the ocean."
Richard, we will miss your wit, and all the characters that we’ve come to know and love.
My how Little Neuro has grown.
Thank you for all the wonderful strips, Richard. Cul de Sac will be missed!
Man, still can’t believe Cul de Sac is calling it quits :(
Soon, we’ll be missing Petey’s complaining. (Yes, I saw someone’s comment yesterday that the “Cul de Sac” strip is coming to close due to the author diagnosed with Parkinson’s.)
Nature is Petey’s way of saying he hates nature. He won’t want to set foot in that ocean with the rest of nature.
Thank you, Richard. God go with you.
Poor Petey. Poorer us. God bless, Richard!
Thanks so much for the reminders of how things look from the little people’s view, for making us laugh and God Bless, we all pray they find a cure soon. You will be so missed
Richard – is this true?!You will be so much missed. May God bless and keep you. Anyone who creates such a perceptive and gentle strip has got to be a wonderful person.
Richard, thank you for the wonderful strip you created. We will miss it and you. God bless you!
Richard, thank for the laughs. Best of everything.
September 23rd will come far too quickly, I fear.
God Bless and all the best, RT…
I just read the Washington Post article and I’m pretty much heart broken. This truly is the best comic strip ever and it won’t be forgotten. All the best to Richard Thompson who has truly brought this characters to life. I hope that with this decision he can now focus on his therapy and on getting better. Thank you Mr. Thompson for all the joy!
Gratefulness and sadness – that’s what I feel – what so many of us feel. Thank you, Richard, for a wonderful ride with a wonderful family. Your wit will be missed here. Good luck – and go with our prayers and/or best wishes for positive results and better health in the coming years.
Ironically, we just came back from the ocean last night – couldn’t get the boys to play in it.
Richard, please consider re-running the comic from the beginning on gocomics. I will miss my comic family.
Thank you, Richard. You done good, and we’re going to miss you.
I hope that all the Cul de Sac strips will be assembled into many book collections. I want to be able to keep re-reading them. I have the Calvin and Hobbes books, and it is good to go back, especially on a rainy day, and just have some laughs.
Richard, you will always be in our thoughts and prayers as you struggle with this disease. God bless you.
Thank you for Cul de Sac, Mr Thompson! You created a truly excellent comic strip! Wishing you all the best.
Noooooooooooo! I’m so terribly saddened to hear this news about you, Mr. Thompson. Please look into recent developments in medical devices that can stop tremors or ease tremors caused by Parkinsons and other conditions. And thank you for sharing your gifts with us.
Thank you Richard—I am sad to see this news; may your path be gentle and your healing more effective than you can dream of.
Mr. Thompson, I will continue to pray for you. God Bless and Keep You and Your Family.
I sure will miss your strip, it was something that I looked forward to daily. Good luck with your battle with Parkinsons. I’ll be praying and sending healing thoughts your way.
I love your work Richard. (I just don’t know what to say).
I will very much miss this strip. Best wishes for your future Richard.
Alice and Petey (and therefore you) are adorable! I will miss you all very much. Thanks for the chuckles.
well, tragic this is. Cul de Sac was an understanding strip of families. But now it’s over… how sad. What’s even worse is that I predicted this, because of all the reruns. I understand your reasons for quitting, RIchard. Now have a fun retirement……………………………..
Richard, thanks for sharing your gift with us
It seem Mrs. Otterloop is relaxing fine!
I will miss your masterful drawing style as well as the gentle way you show the humor in the folks around your world.
Thank you Richard Thompson. Cul de Sac has been a joy. The characters have been like family. Best of luck with your retirement and with your health. I’m with Pacopuddy who said you ‘must be a wonderful person’.
It’s a sad day in Comicland today. Hang in there, Mr. Thompson. We’re all pulling for you.
Richards many thanks for all the great times I have spent reading Cul de Sac !Best of everything to you.
I am very sad that one of my favorite strips is ending, but I hope it can go into reruns starting with the first. I started reading it somewhere in the middle and wouldn’t mind seeing all of it. Also books of the entire strip would be nice.
Richard, I cannot tell you how much I will miss Cul de Sac,which to me is the greatest strip – ever. Take care.
We love this strip…you will be sorely missed! Such a great representation of family life in the suburbs. We wish you all the best, and pray for a cure.
Aw man and I learned to like Cul-de-Sac since January.
I have seen many comic strips come and go, but this is one I shall truly miss. Spirit bless you, Richard, for all the laughs you’ve given.
Going to miss my favorite strip :-( Thank you Richard for bringing heart and light to my day, every day.
Sad news abut Cul de Sac. I join all the others in wishing you the very best, Richard, and thanks for all the joy you have given us.
i discovered Cul de Sac way to late.i will miss it also.
I didnt realise the issue until I saw the comments here. I only discovered the strip in the last 6 months or so – it is great. I can see so many real life kids in it.Parkinsons is a bummer and obviously indiscriminate. The best of luck with you treatment mate.
okay funny but i don’t know why it’s called cul de sac.
I wonder if there’s a way to put your ideas in a non-drawing form? You have such a wonderful imagination, and as a writer and writing teacher, I think you could maybe branch out into novels or something like that? YOu are truly the heir to Peanuts. And Calvin and Hobbs.
More of all that love, respect, admiration from me. And now sadness too. Good luck, Richard Thompson, most excellent human.
And everyone should read Richard’s comments athttp://richardspooralmanac.blogspot.ca/
Dear Richard, I am truly sorry you’re having to go through such a difficult journey and I seriously pray a cure for the disease is found soon—or at least relief. Thank you for sharing this world and characters. I love this strip because it is gentle while being humorous and loveable, as well as quite realistic. May you be blessed!

I just learned the news about “Cul De Sac”. I am truly sorry to hear it, and to hear that your illness, Richard, is taking such a toll on you. Best wishes in the days to come, and I will continue to enjoy “C.D.S.” for as long as possible. It is a unique and fun comic.
RT is JUST giving up the daily strip - which just happens to be our Joy.
Inshala he will be able to go on with some kind of art for us unto the mid-century…
How about online once a week Adventures on that Cul de Sac subscriptions?
According to the late, great Frederick Wertham, all comics were warped, anyway.
I haven’t been close to tears about a cartoonist retiring his strip since Charles Schulz. Thank you, Richard. I’ll keep praying for a cure for Parkinson’s – a dreadful disease that nobody should have, especially someone with your talent, wit, and obvious kindness!
Richard, the news is shattering. Peace, courage, strength and healing to you. God go with you. Schulz was just mentioned here; I can’t help but think that he would have loved your strip every bit as much as the rest of us. Cul de Sac is truly the BEST comic strip in the papers. You know, I hope I see it topped someday, but I doubt it’ll happen. Thanks for bringing your talent every day that Cul de Sac has run.
Fortunate we are to have enjoyed your wit, humor, and insights. Hang tough. You never know about what’s yet to come ;-)
