When I was a kid and threatened to run away, I kept procrastinating until my father came home and said, “Too bad you’re running away, I’m gonna see a nice movie.” I decided to see the movie with my father and to run away another time.
Around her age one morning, I told my parents I was running away. They hardly acknowledged it, probably because they correctly predicted I wouldn’t reach the end of the block before changing my mind.
My best friend and I ran away when were five. Mom made us sandwiches and we set off. Later in life she told me she just called people on our ‘route’ who kept an eye on us. We eventually got tiered and came home. Can’t do that sort of thing now a days, but 45 years ago, it was no bid deal.
Ruthie you drama girl. When I was a kid my sister and I never thought of running away. My hubby or brother never thought of running away when they were children.
My 4 year old ran away. I trailed her at a discreet distance. After less than an hour, she got lost and sat down crying – and after waiting a few minutes, I “found” her.

Ah, this reminds me of when I was young. Mom knew me to well, she knew I would be back for dinner….LOL.

Old joke. But if the kid calls your bluff, how are you going to deal with the officer who eventually brings them back?

My brother threatened to run away once, so my Mom packed his suitcase. By the time she was done he was begging to stay.
