James is in kindergarten and Ruthie is in first grade, so I don’t think it’s a question of his needing remedial help so much as it is that she’s learned more than he has so far.
It could also be that they’re just “playing school”, using what Ruthie learned as the basis for teaching him (both literally and in a play setting) and not just a literal tutoring session….
