I only remember three of the old jingles in this strip: “Buckle Up” and “Digel” elude me. And is “Pudgy Puss” a real jingle or something made up for this cartoon? Inquiring minds want to know!

If you’ve got a passion for fashion. And you’ve got a craving for saving. Take the wheel of your automobile And swing on down to Ideal. Jingle for a now closed South Jersey clothing outlet. Played on the radio countless times daily during the ’60’s and ’70’s.

Here’s one I’ll never forget from an ad they played constantly on Baltimore TV (the tune was kinds of an um-pa-pa polka-like melody:

GIve me a little Kissling’ SauerkrautIts old Dutch flavor makes you sing and shout. In transparent bags it’s sold,Kissling’s Sauerkraut, hot or cold!

Then there was the one in the 60’s, I forget the beer. The announcer introduced the brewmaster. His name was (phonetically spelled) Papa Joe Greezidick. My great-grandmother never said anything but there was always a little smile on her face when it came on.

“Brylcreem, a little dab’ll do ya…!” I was singing that the other day to my baby grandson. Don Drysdale did one of the commercials because he supposedly threw greaseballs.

“Chock Full of Nuts is a heaaaavenly coffee….” Which I didn’t like because the dancing cans seemed kinda dumb and too New York.
