how disappointing for the other readers thinking it was a cell phone set to vibrate (how surprising that Phil is also ophidiophobic).

If I remember correctly Andy is supposed to be Wally’s nephew. His parents didn’t want to spend time to raise him and he ended up with his uncle’s family. It makes it more believable that he wouldn’t be there for the trip (spending some of his summer vacation visiting his actual parents).

Trust Max to be the little brat to bring it back to the camp after it was freed. Joan needs to exercize some harsher discipline that sticks to his gnat-like memory-banks. Yeesh!

I work in a manufacturing facility at the edge of the metro Phoenix area. We get snakes inside regularly. It’s amazing how many men are afraid of snakes. They just don’t admit it in public. Poor Phil – outted in front of his girlfriend!

@TBBB is right. But note that even though Andy and Max look alike, they are NOT related by blood, since Wally is Max’s stepfather, not the biological one.

True Buffalo Bulls is right. Andy’s mom is Wally’s sister. They are very well off, but tend to give Andy cash instead of time. He once told Holly that his parents were going to a ski resort, but he’d rather stay home with “nerdy, low tech and always home” Uncle Wally; vs his mom would be on her lap top and his dad on the blackberry ; always too busy for him.

@Cofyjunky: Max isn’t a brat; he’s just the quintesential cartoon representative of male childhood. And whaddaya mean, “back to camp?” The poor thing never got a chance to get OUT of camp!Snakes are cool, but I’m not interested in fondling them. Max shoud be careful, because the snake might bite him in an effort to escape. It’s probably not pois- sorry, venomous, but it wouldn’t be enjoyable.I do wonder why it was making so much noise, though. A snake slithering in a sleeping bag wouldn’t make much noise… unless it IS a rattlesnake.

Okay, somebody explain the rrrrzzzt that was heard. A small harmless snake isn’t going to make that noise. Once a snake finds a cozy place to hide they generally coil up and keep quiet while resting.

That looks like a little garter snake. We had them in the country. When I was a teenager, we had a plague of them. But they did no harm.

I’m sure that if Phil had encountered the snake in the line of duty, he would have done whatever was necessary – ignored it, picked it up and stuffed in a bag, pushed it to the side of the sidewalk or road, shot it if it was threatening someone, or something else. During his “down” time, he’s allowed to have his personal phobias.

Yeah, sorry, English is not my native language. I meant that Max and Andy are “step-cousins” and would not be considered to be related at all if Max’s mom had not married Andy’s uncle.
