This is the only time when Calvin’s parents are happy, when he’s at school.

It is fun, nose full of milk and the money to payoff Moe somewhere on the ground out of reach.

It’s not good to eat so much before running on the playground and do sports!

Or maybe the other kids just can’t stand to be around him, hurling or no hurling.

Recess? They removed that from school 13 years ago as academically unnecessary.

If Calvin wants real solitude, he could ‘exercise’ his option to read a book. It works for Kate! She is invisible to Danae, anyway.

@JohnnyDiego,“It’s a tough play. Every time you try it someone gets his bell rung.”

“Score!”I just thought I’d chime in, again.

Luckily, I read at recess instead of charging around.

Gapes and ice cream? Better than anything I ever remember from elementary school. But that was mumbledy-mumble decades ago, so I may be forgetting some details.

Thanks for letting me feel young again. Memories……. World’s Fair in Vancouver, they opened up one day and the crowd was very thin at the ‘barrel’ roller coaster right after breakfast. Couldn’t resist and didn’t see any oopses.

When I was 10 – 15 my parent would take me to a Six Flags or Worlds of Fun about twice a year. We would usually meat up with some relatives and agree to meet at the main gate and then go have a family dinner somewhere. While we were at the park, they would give me a ten or twenty for me to get drinks and food. I hit the rides, and they would usually wander around looking at shops or whatever event was planned that weekend.(This was before parents had to seriously worry about kidnappers and pedophiles)One of my favorite things to do(mainly because it meant my parents would not ride with me), was to eat 2 or 3 of these pulled pork BBQ sandwiches, and hit the roller coasters(and any other rides, too).

I loved those BBQ sandwiches, but it made my mother turn green just to think about eating one and riding one of the rides. Especially since I preferred to ride in the very front whenever I could……The neat thing(for me anyway), was that towards the end of the season, the crowds would drop off and the ride attendants would let people ride multiple times with out having to get out and get back in the line. I once rode the Orient Express 5 or 6 times in row sitting in the front seat of the front car after eating 3 of those BBQ sandwiches. Even my father turned a little green when I told them about it before we went to dinner.

I remember the school janitor making many trips to our classroom with his broom and box of sawdust. In later years he added a Lysol spray for a festive touch.

I find solitude during recess. But it’s somewhat different.
