The loan to Solyndra was $527 million, not billion, let alone trillion.China and Germany are pulling ahead of us in solar technology as well as other technologies, because those governments are willing to invest in their future. They have their share of ‘losers’ as well. The big payoff is not from a company being individually successful, but from the innovations that happen. We got a lot of benefits from the Apollo program besides the bragging rights to putting the first human on the Moon.
