What they need is hydrogen peroxide and ammonia. Hydrogen peroxide breaks up skunksquirt, and ammonia removes the broken down skunksquirt.

FINALLY! I was wondering when they were going to get enough tomato items for a much-needed tomato bath, ’cause my eyes are starting to water.

Skunk smell is so bad that your nose will suffer from exhaustion. Give it something else to smell – like tomato juice – and it switches to smelling the tomato juice, even though the skunk smell is still there. Someone arriving with a fresh nose will smell the skunk.

I weigh in on the side of peroxide and vinegar. Tomato juice left on for 20 minutes did NOT help our dog. Peroxide did, immediately.

It wouldn’t be a Stone Family camping trip without something going not right! One year Alix came down with the chicken pox, another Holly became a “woman” so this year, it’s Max’s turn!

Ugh. One of my clients dogs got sprayed once. The dog got a bath, not sure what they used, but it still smelled for days after and so did the house. And the towels that they used to dry the dog off with, even after numerous washings! :o

Just be sure to heat up the cold tomato juice/sauce/ketchup before applying to dog(or kid). Anything right out of the refrigerator is cold.

If I were the cartoonist I wouldn’t be very concerned with a pan from someone who can’t spell “reeks”.

Good to hear about the peroxide solution.A heavy dose of skunk spray on a 2 year old probably means a trip to the emergency room.Tomotatoes worked for my dog. For some reason the home canned ones worked, but the store canned variety did not.

I’ve used both tomato sauce and the peroxide/vinegar/Dawn detergent (not at the same time) and they both work, but the peroxide mixture is a bit better. Although it was funny when I had to do this recently and used the tomato sauce with the dog in the bath tub. He decided that he needed to shake and it went every where including my white tee shirt. It looked like I was a mass murderer lol

Seriously,
1 tbsp liquid soap1/4 cup baking soda1 quart hydrogen peroxide
The scent will be gone immediately. Will not hurt your clothes. We once had a dog get sprayed on her face from about 10 feet. That was bad. But the dog that got sprayed from about 6 inches square on the chest was worse. They both were bathed with this mixture and slept in the house that night. It works.

Ammonia and vinegar are both bases, and would work well, vinegar would probably be easier on everything, though.
