    From the 1880s, actually, though it didn’t become widely known until it was featured in an 1891 minstrel show. Just how old is Gramps?

    “Ta-Ra-Ra Boom-De-Ay” was an international hit. Chekhov references it in “Three Sisters” (written 1900).

    So maybe Gramps is just a fan of Russian theater…
