JM, you lie. The government bought and walked no guns, rather local prosecutors failed to follow up on their findings due to fear of the NRA. You’ve been fooled by Fox, so read the Fortune magazine reporting, and quit spreading the “BS” you rightly decry.

30,000+ gun deaths in the U.S. every year, we hold the record. Yes, indeed DO look at the record for countries with valid gun control laws, like New Zealand, where guns are NOT “BANNED”, but the owners are registered. The gun deaths are minor, even by “accidents”. Japan is tough and very few occurrences.

Sad as the Colorado event is, the toll represents only ONE THIRD THE DAILY TOTAL FOR THE NATION!!

How about we leave it at this… The US is crazy in some regard because we kill people with guns at a far higher rate than anywhere else in the world (that isn’t playing host to a war). So maybe, you and the liberals among us can get together and figure out how to get that gun violence rate down. Just saying guns are wonderful and everyone should have one doesn’t help – we have one of the highest gun-ownership rates in the world, and that hasn’t helped. So how do we lower that gun violence rate?

There’s links all over about the gun-walking hoax. Basically, none of the guns were purchased by the ATF, they were purchased by people who were selling them to Mexican drug cartels. But just because the ATF knew what was happening, they could not stop them because there are no enforceable laws against trafficking. Here’s a link out of hundreds:

Life has changed in Switzerland! They are issued automatic rifles and after time served, the firearm is converted to semi automatic. Much ado about nothing as the liberals confiscated the ammo.

Switzerland Strips Citizens of Gun Rights: http://concealed.wordpress.com/2007/10/27/switzerland-strips-all-citizens-of-gun-rights/

From Wikipedia: In October 2007, the Swiss Federal Council decided that the distribution of ammunition to soldiers shall stop and that all previously issued ammo shall be returned. By March 2011, more than 99% of the ammo has been received. Only special rapid deployment units and the military police still have ammunition stored at home today.[

AMC is already doing that with their theaters – and I heard that on NBC News. One other movie theater company (I forget which, but can be found on the same source) is banning all costumes to its venues.

The average citizen cannot be trusted with a gun. Only the government and the police should have access to guns. Redneck republicans kill.

Ima: cars are for commuting, and if more people stayed sober, and off their cell phones, the death rate would go further down, “design” can only do so much. Which: guns are DESIGNED to kill, and outrageous magazines for weapons are meant to kill MANY PEOPLE AT ONE TIME!

Actually, a bolt action rifle, at considerable distance from the target, is actually the most accurate, and lethal way, to take out “bad guys”. I know.

I did not know about it until today either.

It has been about a year since all ammo had to be turned in, so it is a wait and see game. Who knows if it will have an effect on their crime rate.

Clearly your ignorance has gotten control of you again. Ever been to a major city where licenses are handed out with no restrictions? Or a city where drivers do not get licenses and drive anyway?

Do you really believe that, or are you just echoing the party line?

Now I’m liberal, I can accept there is a need for a civilian version of the M16. There are a lot of hunters who aren’t bright enough to work a bolt action, or have the hand coordination to use a lever action rifle. For those a semi automatic rifle makes sense. That still begs the question: What sport requires a 100 round magazine?

Yet until James Holmes kicked open the door in the theater he had not broken any laws.

SW: over 30 police officers in the last decade WERE murdered using cars as a weapon. That’s why I get upset when “defenders” whine when “poor little criminal” is shot while trying to mow cops down with a car.

Ima: How many times must I repeat, I hunt, fish, and reserve the right to “defend” myself with a firearm IF NECESSARY. I SUPPORT “Well regulated” firearm ownership, as a PRIVILEGE, not a “RIght” to “civilians” NOT in law enforcement, or members of the “militia” as national guard or reserves.

As a concealed permit holder I think the minimum for PURCHASE OR POSSESSION of any firearm should be the same as my license requirement: 1. clear mental and criminal record 2. PROOF of training in ethics as well as competence with a weapon-including range training. 3. Registration of the GUN OWNER. 4. Registration of the GUNS (which exceeds New Zealand’s standard)

My point on gun registration is simple, if owners KNOW the guns can be traced to them, they will NOT sell them illegally, and if they’re stolen, it will be REPORTED to police! This would essentially eliminate that NRA canard that “criminals can easily acquire guns”. IF the legitimate owner, or “crime victim” KNOWS a gun used illegally can be traced back to them, they won’t let those guns go on the black market!

Like your research. I have to say reading this had me think hard about gun control. I have been ambivalent on that issue.

I remember the Beslan School Massacre. at the time there was considerable comment on the militia and many armed civilians making the situation much more complicated for the authorities.
