A group did that in the Virginia Lottery once, many years ago. They had bunches of people go to different locations and buy many tickets. I think they used a computer program to fill out the play slips. They did win more than they invested, but didn’t actually play EVERY combination. Since then, the lottery increased the number of possible numbers and banned using computer generated play slips. Here’s one story I found on it.http://www.nytimes.com/1992/02/25/us/group-invests-5-million-to-hedge-bets-in-lottery.html?pagewanted=all&src=pm

The Bee Gees got their first charted single while they were teens in Australia. They and a group of friends bought as many copies as they could afford- this caused enough of a bump to get attention. A little radio play led to sales, and vice versa. It was a big investment, since they were several years away from being rich and famous- but it primed the pump. Yet that was still more doable than Maria’s scheme.
