I’ll disagree Brdshtt (nice moniker btw) -the love of a spouse can act as a tempering agent as well as a buffer against the world. And her intent to run and be president at a young age doesn’t really project the image of someone who has actually LIVED life and learned from it -there is a REASON why these kids recently graduated from high school don’t often end up in positions of leadership at the top. It takes a LOT more than a Type A personality to become wise and well-rounded.

I really dislike this cliched crap about ambition in women being antithetical to romantic relationships. It’s tired and nonsensical and it gets even worse when you have your main character playing the sane one for the moment and acting like the “right” choice is to choose relationships…over a career. How ridiculous to act like that’s a choice a person has to make! Having a boyfriend/girlfriend/husband/wife doesn’t prevent you from holding office, going to law school, etc. This conversation would make sense in my mom’s day, but not mine.

I guess all of your kid’s teachers will have to be married then, because otherwise there’s no way they’ll be able to teach them anything about life today. And obviously, if you belong to a church, it can’t be Catholic, since if your clergy isn’t married there’s no way they can counsel you on family mattters “that affect us all”..What I find interesting is that you blithely assume “us all” happen to be married with families. So those of us who are single, who don’t have kids, should actually NOT vote for any married politicians with kids, since there’s obviously no way they can possibly understand OUR problems.

Credit where credit is due. Well done Mr. Evans. He’s writing Delta like a Tiffany who pays attention in class instead of putting on her make up and has a better vocabulary. But ‘Delffany’ still just assumes she’s going to waltz into her dream jobs. A successful business career? No, she’s going to be a CEO. A(nother) career in public service? No, the Senate, then on to the Presidency! And oh, all that messy human interaction, relationship stuff? That’s for regular people, but yeah, she’ll get around to it. Cuz, you know, Mr. Perfect will always just be hanging around just champing at the bit to hook up with Wonder Delffany.I can easily see a strip no long from now with Luann and Crystal lamenting their friend who thinks they can have it all on their own not entirely realistic terms and the two of them ending with a synchronous, “Can you believe that TiffDelffanyta?” :)

Leviticus, found the book I told you about yesterday. It’s the non-evangelical “The Case for Faith” by Lee Strobel. It attempts to answer 8 objections to faith, such as “A loving God would never torture people in hell.” Take the answers for what they’re worth— they are just a good starting point for discussion. And instead of trying out Baptist & Evangelical churches, you might feel more theologically at-home at liberal Methodist or UCC churches. Or Unitarian. Or heck, do what some of us did and call houses of worship from various religions, say “Hi, I’m Bob, a religious seeker, can I come worship with you on Friday/Sat./Sun.?” That’d be especially cool to do with a Sikh community now, to show your support. And as for the story, Delta wants a stereotypical “wife” for a husband— just like we did when we were in grad school! (Instead, we all became that “wife” or stayed single.)

I do hope to see Delta care about somebody in the near future. If it’s a woman – well “Better or Worse,” “CWL” and Doonesbury went there. But Delta’s story could go lotsa different ways.

Don’t know if anyone has brought this up (too many posts to read LOL). But Delta doesn’t seem to realize that every President we’ve had, with the exception of Buchanan (who has already been mentioned) were married (and I believe they all had children) – even our youngest President. Having a husband & children give a President an escape from the incredible pressures of being the leader of the free world. The phrase “it’s lonely at the top” would be even more intense for them without their families to “come home” to. She’s definitely got her priorities backwards in her goal to be President.

“Humans can reduce the population by not having children or nature can do it with plague and starvation.”-All of the above are in play. Many put off having children until they are no longer fertile or simple don’t have children or have fewer children than would be required to even maintain a stable population.-There are plenty of plagues past and present, and most likely future. As people are more and more able to come in contact with each other and as biological manipulation is easier and easier, more plagues are to be expected. Further, many of the old cures are no longer working.-And most starvation so far has been politically induced, governments cutting off access to food such as has happened in Somalia, Ethiopia, USSR. But unless better production comes into play, lack of water, nutrients or simply area would be unable to keep up with even the existing population.-Oh, and you forgot WAR. War can reduce population down to near zero if done by the right/wrong people. Biological or nuclear war mostly.
