My maternal grandfather lived to be 96. Now THAT is old in my point of view (paternal 78).

@ИOMЯOM – Hope you had as many enjoyable moments with him as I did with my great-grandmother who made it to 103. I learned a lot of American History from her. And a lot about the old way of life. She was one of the original settlers in the Cherokee strip when it was opened to settlement.

I’ve had two uncles ( one still alive ) who played golf well into their nineties. My grandmother on my father’s side lived until 98. My mother retired, finally, at 83 and kept her own house and was very active until almost 90. She used to say: Age is just Mind over Matter. She didn’t mind and it didn’t matter. She also said age was just a number – and hers was unlisted !

I would like to live to be 1200, but I’d settle for 600. Now if my body would just stop aging.

My mother and her parents came from the North of Ireland. My grandmother was a font of “old county” expressions and adages. Years ago, for a family reunion, my mom wrote down some of the most oft used and popular ones and published them in a small book called: " As My Mother Used To Say…"I cherish my copy to this day.I would encourage anyone with parents or grandparents who loved to impart that kind of wit and wisdom, to write or record them for posterity. YOUR children and grandchildren will thank you for preserving part of their cultural heritage.

How cool is that? My name is Bud Long and I ticked Earl off! But I’m not quite 90 …yet.
