We had a ’55 cabriolet (hand operated convertible). It was the only VW I ever saw that had little arms that swung out from the side for turn signals. (They were disconnected to comply with the CA vehicle code).
in the summer, hair could either grow or you could get a buzz cut…my brothers always let it grow … that is, until they were drafted and the service gave them thier buzz cuts for free before shipping them off to Viet Nam…..<3

I remember the split rear windows which were older. My family had ’61 and ’70 bugs, the ’70 was auto-stick.
