Ah, the fragrance cloud. More effective at dispersing a crowd than tear gas and rubber bullets.

Man… if you light up a match in that area and with all those fumes they’ll be blown to kingdom come.

Why do old ladies always wear about a gallon and a half of perfume?

I read somewhere that it’s because their olfactory sensors don’t work as well as they get older, so they have to use more scent before their noses register the fact that they have any on. Sounds reasonable to me.

I hate to ask, but what would Tiffany’s (the “Luann” character, not the singer) perfume smell like?

Some say there’s no such thing as an aphrodisiac. But when a man smells his wife wearing the special perfume she only wears when she plans on seducing him…

Aside from the smell of the fragrances the chemicals that they are made from are actually toxic. I have seen studies showing that up to 20% of the US population is chemically sensitive.

Used to work with an immigrant from Africa, we had a betting pool on where he went to school in his native country all because he came to work smelling like he soaked in his cologne – turns out he was raised and taught be French Missionaries…. go figure. Did win me about $8 though. I figured that only the French would teach someone that HAD to smell nice all the time, while avoiding the idea of taking a bath regularly to keep clean.

Women are way too hooked on artificial smellifiers. Usually get it wrong as well. Natural (but clean) smells the best.

Pheromones are chemicals that are secreted in our sweat (and other bodily fluids) that are believed to release neurotransmitters that directly modify the behavior of the opposite sex, such as triggering sexual excitement. Scientists have long hypothesized that these pheromones are natural sexual attractants that wield a powerful influence on their mating habits. In fact, many studies have shown that people who produce higher than average amounts of pheromones have greater success with members of the opposite sex..Perfume probably masks these natural attractants. That may have been the real reason that Napoleon famously sent his wife, Josephine, a letter saying “Coming home in three days: don’t wash.”

I am one of those older women but, I don’t wear a lot of perfume because I know it could be overwhelming. I spray it in front of me then walk into it. I figure that should be enough even though I can’t smell it too well. I have smelled ‘younger’ women have had on so much that when they left the room the scent was so strong you’re gasping for air. So, it has nothing to do with age. It’s your own class or not!

Eau de eau. Smells just like water. In fact, it is only water. Scented water, that comes in tiny little bottles that cost upwards of $50.00. I never quite understood that.

Paula Poundstone had a hilarious take on celebrity fragrances. On an appearance on Letterman in the 80s, she has questions about Cher’s fragrance. I’m paraphrasing, but she asks, “What is it about it that says ‘Cher’? Is it like a musk, do they squeeze her to get it out of her? I can just picture a husband coming home and saying to his wife, “Honey…you smell like Cher! Sing ‘Half-Breed’!”
