Self-important comics for self-important people, mayhap?

A few weeks ago, I discovered an old Casper comic of mine at the bottom of a trunk. The pages were ragged and crumbling – it was over thirty five years old, after all – but it was still in fairly good shape. I loved rereading it.I find that the comics we enjoyed as children have, generally speaking, retained far more charm than the stuff peddled to teenagers – all that superzero garbage never attracted me.

Whatever you do don’t read them… that will surely spoil the collector value.

Does anyone know: was Bill Watterson making a point about a particular comic/brand?

Ah, I see the major publishers of today’s comics used to read Calvin and Hobbes…

Captain Steroid? Barry Bonds is a comic book superhero?

Hobbes keeps buying bonds? What is he using for income?Oh, I forgot. He works for GoComics!

MAD Magazine is my favorite. I’ve been collecting it over 40 years.The first one I ever got had “All in the Family” on the cover, and a vinyl record inside.

In Calvin’s hands, bonds may be a safer investment for now – at least until he grows up a few years.

Mom threw away all our old comic books. I had several years worth of ‘Green Hornet’.

Hello Hobbes. Little continuation from my discussion and yes I will not go long detail. My mom was not aware too much until the school wanted to change me to special Ed that I need glasses. Eye specialist told her the reason why. Well I did work hard some areas like better way of English use or writing better papers I did not learn until Comp I as mature adult.When I did finish HS I went to a technical college still did not learn to write papers as was needed but learned on English terms. My mom still does not like to read. She would not take sister and I to library. I did not inherit this trait. I have since big time make up for it and bought a lot of books from used book stores and garage sales. I have a lot. Now pleasure reading is on halt statis.

I was let go from county from working at place called JRBR or Judge Riddel Boys Ranch located SW of ICT at by a lake. Teen boys who get in trouble by breaking the law. A lot of parents want them there. I also got very busy after leaving with my mom on surgery, should have been over night and release, not.This facility due to budget cuts is on the chopping block for closure. The facility is paid by the state and money is not coming in and the county cannot afford to pay. I am so happy for the closure. The place is not doing what it should.

Now to move on. My summer class is nearing an end I have one test left from Keyboarding Begining Document Processing and Have signed up for Comp II and Sociology. My daughter bought a used book a student did not return. Internet on Sociology is helping I have been youtube videoing lectures based on the text book. I hope the text is closly related. I am not a great writier and not sure how I managed to pass Comp I.I will be leaving shortly. Hubby received news of a couin’s passing on him mom’s side. His mom is gone.

I should say I will not speak of the above anytime soon.

Oh I should say what I learned growing up like vision, I made sure before my children started school about their vision having both eyes checked. Our son went through eye patching, poor soul ridculed by fellow students until they got used to him wearing patch. And it worked he no longers wear glasses. I always encouraged my children to read. They are now adults so up to them.

Methinks Calvin doth overestimate the potential value of the comic books. As collector’s items, the plastic bags probably will be worth more than the comic books!

Can the “great committee that drew this issue” also draw customers?

Was mentoring a couple of troubled (and poor) boys for awhile; their granddad had given them a box of old comics. Their mom was going to throw them out. I saw them and said to the boys: “Come with me.” Down to the local comic collector, appraised, and those two boys walked out with almost a hundred dollars to add to their household. No shame in that.

Invest in a bat & ball, basketball, table tennis set, find a friend (that may be the hardest part) get off yer fat butts and get some exercise. I’ve seen too many comic book collectors at coin shops; most of them a morbidly obese.

I remember a comic book that was about WWII guys fighting dinosaurs. They were on an island in the Pacific, I think. From the early ’60’s I guess. Original idea, no?

I have’nt read a comic book in years. Do they still sell the x-ray glasses in the back pages? I always wanted a pair of those.

ha! Good old Bill, he knew how the comic collecting community was being suckered ten years before any of the actual collectors figured it out…of course this almost caused the comic industry to collapse in on itself so they got what was coming to them.

A few days ago, Hobbes posted the records for Calvin and Hobbes readers. I must announce that I posted a comment on Calvin and Hobbes on my first day of go comics membership. Also, I am ten (I can’t recall if my page shows my age, but I put in a different thing, because I was worried about not being old enough), so I broke that record

Hobbes you are so correct about too personal information. Even I use a different name.I want to thank everyone for your encouragement. I am waiting until Tuesday evening for the test as I have this week and return my book in Wednesday. I will let everyone know the results. Something when me a student finds faults with software the campus uses.

I have been reading some of your comments about keeping your old comics books. Must be really nice.Hubby and I had a long morning of driving the service to a cousin of my hubby was very nice. I was born in 1958…love Marvin the Martian. On my desk is a Hot Wheel yellow Corvette and a Madagascar Penguin Commando. That makes me SEVEN years old! What prize do I get for that record, Hobbesey-Baby??? (Eagerly await my very own Ladmo Bag!…now, who will get that reference?)

@lightenup: That’s great that you supervise your daughter when she comments online. If someone is mean to her someday, it will be a learning experience for her, because you will be able to teach her how to respond and reassure her that it is the mean person who has a problem, not her.My statistics were only covering current Calvin and Hobbes posters, but I could always add a category for “youngest GoComics poster offspring of a current Calvin and Hobbes poster”I’ll leave some room here for Dogsniff to fill in with the inevitable “Poster Child” joke…….
