If America refers to the USA and not the continent, that it would be from 1776 on. So that would be whites vs. natives, slaves and other non-whites. Let’s check the census!

And, if they were like most pre-development societies, they had a life-expediency of the mid-thirties with half their children dying before they were ten. People who glamorize the past are secure in the knowledge they wouldn’t have to live there.

You must be crazy. Please don’t say you really believe that. Go try living in the woods for a year, with NO products produced after 1700, then tell me this fairy tale again

Archimedes: With the woods and its supporting ecosystem destroyed, no knowledge of herbal medicines, poisoned water in the streams, and no social structure for mutual help, how can anyone try that? Return everything to pre-1700 conditions and it is feasible – but then you can’t do that either.

I agree with your point of view.People say, “Oh, imagine life without all the things we’re used to!”, but the reality is that life was much more beautiful and natural before small-pox and alcohol arrived.

Interesting point on that “life expectancy” thing. It wasn’t any greater in Europe in 1492, and in fact was generally far lower than in North America, especially if you “crossed” the Inquisition. That same European institution didn’t do much good for the American “natives” either. It was actually called “genocide by church”.

For those who are commenting about how “primitive” the Native American societies were, I suggest you look up Monk’s Mound. Further, many of the societies practiced better hygiene than the settlers, and especially in South America developed highly advanced societies. I recall reading before at school how the Mayans I think it was had constructed aqueducts and other neat things.

Good story. My family claims that when they started farming in the midwest an old Indian came along looked at the newly plowed ground, shook his head and said “Land wrong side up.” Not too many years later…dust bowl.

Nah, that’s not it; they post other things besides hate. For example, scientific ignorance, dog eat dog economics (though that may be a subset of hate), fear (of change, of people who are different), nostalgia (blacks in the fields, women in the kitchen), various political lies and, of course, lots of religion.

Iroquois Confederacy, basis for much of our Constitution and “new” form of government. Yup, them “savages” didn’t have anything to offer.

Hmm, interesting idea; let’s check it out. Do we hate gays? No, that would be the right wing. Mexicans (as if the right could tell one Hispanic from another)? No, that’s the right again. Blacks? Do I hear “Duelling Banjos” playing in the background? Muslims? Christian right, front and center. Women? Rick Santorum for president! The poor? My-name-is-Mitt-Romney-and-I-like-to-fire-people. The environment? ROFLMAO.But, I will admit that they do “love” the rich, as do all whores.

Thanks, big guy. Nice to hear a kind word, and nice to see DenverMosaic on board, too. The Darwin fish is nice; I also like the one with the word “Gefilte” in the middle!
