Manned space was an ego-trip to compete with the Soviets; it’s expensive and dangerous. We have lots to learn about earth and need the resources to do it.
Obama isn’t responsible for the decline of NASA. The republicans are, with their insistence on cutting spending for everything but the military. A small percentage of the amount spent on Iraq would have funded a manned Mars mission.
I second what Clark said. Not to mention the thousands of American’s killed and maimed. No one objects if you want to go kill infidels to bring them “democracy,” just don’t use my money to do it.As far as democrats voting for the war… just goes to show, never vote for a republican or a republican policy. They never go well.
True, but what democrat wouldn’t like to spend more on the space program? They are constrained by the republicans who want to starve government and drown it in a bathtub. If we could go back the the budget and tax policies of the 60’s, it would be fine with me.
Obama did NOT cancel the shuttle program. Actually, NASA and most folks didn’t want as big and expensive a shuttle in the first place, the Air Force did. IF we could just get NASA back in fighting a war with someone, like USSR and the race to the moon (as de grasse Tyson point out) the funding would come. Science can’t trump war for getting money from Congress.
“So going to Mars is more important to you than saving the lives of tens of thousands of Iraqis that Saddam no doubt would have killed had he been left in power? Try reasoning a bit before writing. And Obama and his Democrat cronies are just as much, if not more, responsible for the decline in our space program as are Republicans.”-——-Yes. USA didn’t save lives in Iraq. USA wasted huge amounts of money, killed 100,000s of Iraqis and many good Americans died there too. War is big business for only few, such as those in power when they started the war in Iraq. We now need to leave Afghanistan, they can figure out their own civil war without the USA continuing to meddle. Any semblance of a goal that made sense to America was the capture of Osama Bin Laden. President Barrack Obama did that where shrubster and cheney didn’t.
So Ariail, how mucn of a tax increase are “YOU” willing to pay so “we” can send “somebody” into space? The same amount of increase you were willing to pay for wars in Afghanistan and Iraq?
Amazing that Arial has the gall to blame THIS on Obama. Really? Has the need to lie gotten that bad? Obama can’t even get a jobs bill passed the Party of No, how’s he supposed to suddenly come up with a new space program?

Our weather satellites are close to failure with no planned replacements. Weather prediction accuracy will go down.
Tang and GPS are not the only positive developments from the space program. New developments are discovered by our space exploration.

Again, it’s Bush’s fault. Obama’s sycophants have learned the line very well

Does Mr. Ariail follow what’s going with private American space developments? SpaceX and all the rest?

Odd cartoon. What, exactly, is the alternative at the present time and why is this now due to Obama?

Hopefully when Mitt Romney is president he’l put Newt Gingrich in charge of NASA so we can get on our way to the new manifest destiny: The Moon.
