    About the painting, and details about the artist not mentioned at Wikipedia, as far as I know.Even with this even more enlarged image (thanks @Baslim the begger), available from here, or the enlargement available from here (last of View All Sizes), I still can’t see what’s written on the mantlepiece tablet.So far, 8 works by this artist have appeared in Mr. Melcher’s blog (and no, in case you were wondering, this didn’t appear on April 1 there).

    I lost internet before I was able to look thru my comics today and just now looked at this artist. There is one of his which I have in my collection (Effects of Intemperence) which I saved because it shows a typical parrot perch for the middle ages.
