See, it started with the banning of skateboards……It’s a slippery slope, one liberty at a time……..What will they ban next, playing “Hot Potato” with hand granades?

Can someone explain the second panel from yesterday? If the kid is just trying to say the team has only been around 80 years, that’s fine, but since there are a couple of things wrong with that theory, I think I may be missing something. 1-The kid says “Those guys only played…” instead of something like “They only started playing…” 2-The date isn’t right. So, is there another joke I am missing?"

@maybeinthenextworld: Thanks. That seems to be a pretty weak joke and the way the kid’s comment is phrased seems illogical, but i appreciate your taking the time to explain.

The “ancient celts” pretty much looked like the Celtics when I was a kid (Larry Bird, M.L. Carr, and some others) – I grew up in the Boston area in the 80’s, and was absolutely fascinated with the fact that the word Celtics could mean two different things and be pronounced in two different ways. Yesterday’s comic makes a lot of sense to someone in their late 30’s who grew up in New England; it’s a bit of an insider joke in that sense. (I can’t believe I actually understood a sports-related comics joke!)
