Unfortunately, this is how most feel about this issue. I, for one, do not want the US involved in another war because war is HELL.

What kills me is that even now, after Iraq and Afghanistan, there are STILL people who think that one good bombing raid and Teheran will fold up like a house of cards, “Please don’t hurt us any MORE, Uncle Sam.”

Why do we let Israel tell us what to do? When did they become our masters?

After reading all the comments (not just on this cartoon but others as well), it reminds me of the reputed U.S. population’s general attitude between WW I and WW II. So, are we headed for WW III?

The “lust for war” is inversely proportional to the odds of one having to actually fight it themselves.

Oh? You mean that we slavishly allowed Israel to dominate our politics and commit horrific acts against their own population and bomb Arab countries at will, knowing we would back them up no matter what they did? With allies like that, who needs enemies?

“Islam has been at war with everyone that isn’t muslim since the founding of the religion.Did you miss that too?It was called history class when I went to school.”

Did you also learn about the Ottoman Empire, where for hundreds of years Jews and Christians were allowed to freely practice their religions despite the central authority deriving from Islam? In, say, 1600, you’d be much better treated as a Christian (or Jew, for that matter) in the Moslem world than as a Moslem (or a Jew, for that matter) in the Christian world. Did they also teach you about the Crusades in school, or did your parents pull you from those classes, like they did for the classes on Darwin and Sex Ed?

Although Israel is an important ally in the Middle East and they do have security problems, nobody in their right mind should give them a blank check to set military policy in that part of the world unless you want continuing wars of territorial conquest. A short leash is a good idea.

The Sinai Peninsula is the only one which I’d grudgingly grant, which they occupied for strategic purposes, and then gave back voluntarily. The rest, as I said, I consider “disputed territory.” I don’t know WHAT the solution to the whole “Palestinian State” question would ever look like. But as far as military superiority goes, I fully agree with this statement:“If the Arabs lay down their arms, there would be no more war. If the Israelis lay down their arms, there would be no more Israel.”

Thanks to ruff, Eryx & motivemagus for proving me right. An even greater thanks to motivemagus for making me smile with his parting shot: “With allies like that, who needs enemies?
