p.s. just three prescriptions came today from VA. Gee, one of those much cheaper government run “health care programs” that costs far less than “privates” provide!!
“congress’ interference” on requiring a GOVERNMENT PENSION FUND to be funded????IMO, the postal unions and the above average “gov.payscale” and the featherbed pensions are what bankrupts the USPS.-and states contracted that disease from the feds…with union police, firefighters, teachers, government employees….fat, fat pensions and double-dipped retire at 20 years and work awhile in job # 2 and retire “rich”….(see Illinois pension scandals)-I prefer my meds from local pharmacy….used to order by mail but best would be FedEx like I order my printer ink cartridges, HP next day shipping free….
how about the usps do limited banking like in other countries? savings accounts, money orders, travelers checks, and etc…it probably would be better than bofa. and, wouldn’t get in trouble with sub prime loans like bofa.
The USPS can raise rates only as high as they are allowed to. I think 45 cents is a terrific bargain, even 90 cents or a dollar is a bargain. I think that the USPS should be allowed to charge at least double the current rate on first class mail, that those junk mailers should be eliminated or pay full fare. I also think I should be able to tell the junk mailer to stop sending me their junk mailer that shows up in my mailbox every Tuesday or Wednesday. RIght now the only way to stop them is to subscribe to the local newspaper. I don’t want paper that needs to be tossed either.
When I send a flat mailer by a carrier like FedEx or UPS about 15 miles, it costs at least $17.95. Certified mail with a return postcard is around $6 and uses fewer paper resources.
I like the USPS, they do a good job. I don’t want the republicans to privatize or eliminate the USPS.
the post office does / did an amazing job. if the republican congress would allow it compete with fedex and ups, it would take a chunk of their business.
they won’t allow it to compete.
so it makes fodder arguments for the right how the problem is entirely unions and benefits (bull).
When I was a kid it was the U.S. Federal Post Office and it made a profit. Now it doesn’t. The U.S. Postal service should be tax based so to economically provide inexpensive mail service to both the citizens and U.S businesses. This crap of privatizing basic services that every American needs is just that, crap; and will prove to be, in most cases, both service wise and economically counter-productive for all concerned. This, of course, is just a POV and non-non anwser to your question.

If CONgress succeeds in bankrupting the Post Office you might have to pay $8 to mail a letter.
