This current storyline has been hitting close to home. I lost a pet this morning, he’d been getting worse as the week went on, and we’d done everything we could for him. It’s hard to say goodbye. But at the end of it, we had the joy of knowing them and we have the memories still.

Too much reality for a comic strip…

I just looked in the archives of this strip and Dean gets Spock Christmas 1999. Very cute storyline. Start December 6 and read on.

And this storyline is hurting me because I had to have my old dog put to sleep a couple weeks ago. I’ve been reading the posts and I see I’m not alone.

Number One, I hope that Spock doesn’t die. He’s an awesome cat.Number Two, if he does die, I hope he’s not replaced by a dog.

Could it be that Mark recently lost of pet of his own?

i never died from a broken heart, but it always feels like i want to.i said that badly, but i think everyone knows what i mean.

Hits close to home for me too. Three years ago I had to put down my 17 year old cat Spock. One kitten and a Dalmatian puppy later and he is still sorely missed.

I actually cried a little.

I sure hope that Spock doesnt die too! and whats the point in doing so??? LET SPOCK LIVE! (unless Spock decided to have a spin-off and get his own comic!)

We need to see more of Spock, let him recover and let Dean have his buddy back where he belongs.Great story line that lets reality rear its ugly head, but not yet, not yet…

Why in God’s name is Tatulli killing off Spoc?? Doesn’t he understand that he writes a COMIC strip that goes into the FUNNY papers? What is funny about a the death of a loved pet?? He is going to lose a lot of readers, starting with me.

I wonder they’re going to the same veterinary comedian from an earlier visit (November 2001).

In a surprise to me, the MSNBC site had a news article yesterday that says scientists claim that you actually CAN die from a broken heart…

Whenever possible, when one of our cats was euthanized, I would be there petting them. They would be lying on one of my shirts so they had a familiar smell. When they did die, I would close their eyes. The way I saw it, they were always there for me and I should be there for them.

When my favourite cat died (I was 10) I just couldn’t eat, I was so devastated … Good bye, Spock … :(

I definitely feel Dean’s pain. Not sure how tomorrow’s strip is going to read. I love Spock. He’s been good to Dean.

Yes, losing a pet HURTS LIKE HELL! I offer my sympathies to all of you who have been through it too! You too Mark! I guess we know how this will play out, and maybe it’s a good reminder for us all, not to take anything for granted.

And YES I believe you can die from a broken heart, because your soul is so broken and hurt that you give up the will to go on and could care less. You just want to go.

It’s amazing how these ‘pets’ become such a major portion of our lives. Dean, I feel for you man. Just lean on Heart if you have to, she’ll help keep you on your feet.
