Well actually there are millions of people starving because OF climate change. So Scott, you are damned if you do, damned if you dont. My money is on doing something.

    Platitudes.

Climate change will hit the developing nations and their poor the hardest and first. We can buffer the initial reprecussions but the poor have no defences against what is happening “upstream”. Talk is cheap.

Actually, there is enough food produced in the world to give every person on the globe a good, balanced diet….the problem is that it just doesn’t get distributed, due to the greed of the npeople who have the wherewithall .

Matthew 26:11 For you have the poor always with you; but me ye have not always.

Once it was the responsibility of the church. The UN is doing a bang up job.

Christmas is soon, don’t forget who it is named after.

“They should pull themselves up by their own bootstraps.”

Or we could take the Catholic Church approach and not help them if any of them are gay. We wouldn’t want them to have to treat people equally, or anything like that.

furnituremaker is right, though. For example, we pay people not to produce food to keep prices steady. But there’re places such as Africa where the Sahara continues to expand on a daily basis drying up rivers and potential farmland.

Really Magnaut? And all those people who oppose climate change reform aren’t self serving?

Providing them with food will end up with the same problems that occurred when they were given money for other projects…It will be taken control of by the same corrupt people who will use it to help themselves instead of the people.

Even if you believe in the man-made global warming campaign, do you actually think it helps to solve problems when you complain about it?

You get presented with a case of starving people and of all the things you want to do to help, you’ll just complain about gasoline and farting cows? Would it actually help world hunger to take the current volume of available corn and turn it into fuel?

The church has seldom been involved with international aid. In any way, there’s no reason why it can’t work today if it wanted to - it’s not like the UN aid distribution is conditional on not receiving aid from anyone else.

What Sam Kinison fails to take into account is you can move people around in the U.S. In Africa and some other places, migration is met with resistance by the people who are located at said places. If you live in an Oasis, you’re going to be pretty darned belligerent if a drove of people comes up to your spot and wants to use the resources.

@DrCanuck - True enough. And it’s not untrue that many people are murderously belligerent over that.

Governments starve their OWN PEOPLE PURPOSELY!!!!!! They do not care about those who are starving. They purposely prevent food from charitable organizations reaching their people who are starving. They’re more interested in “playing political games” than helping their own people. & yes, I agree with others. The U.N. is USELESS! There’s no doubt in my mind that it adds to the world’s problems. I think it should be abolished too.

Wordplay (juegosdepalabras) and Magnaut, the UN is a great organization that works to bring peace in the world by having a unified body where countries can go to, giving them a diplomatic platform where they can list grievances or settle disputes. Disputes are not easily settled and at times require people to fight it out. The UN is NOT an aid organization. The only reason they are involved in such actiivities is because aid requires international collaboration and the UN is a convenient body to work through. The Six organs of the UN are: The General Assembly, The General Secretariat, The Security Council, The International Court of Justice, The Economic and Social Council and The Trusteeship Council (colonies with no nation after WWI, remement of the League of Nations) If you notice there is NO AID body. Those organizations are additional to the UN and are like other IGOs where they, through the aid of many nations, disperse food. Nowhere is it mandated that the UN has to clothe, feed or aid anyone. These are initatives started by members who wanted to contribute. If I where you two, i would read into the nature of an organization before you go around claiming what it is and isnt doing and saying that it should be abolished.

The son of former UN General Secretary Kofi Annan, where he was bribed to allow extra food and other items in exchange for oil. It was too exceed qoutas.
