I think it was Kim Novak who played a chorus girl in a TV movie called “Third Girl from the Left.” At the end of the film, she pulls a chair up against the kitchen door, drags a mattress into the kitchen, turns on the oven, opens the door, and lies down on the mattress in her chorus girl costume, just waiting for the end to come. Her boyfriend rattles the door, but can’t get in. He forces his way through the front door, arrives breathlessly in the kitchen doorway and demands, “What are you doing!?” “What does it look like?” she asks. “I’m committing suicide!” He asks, “With an electric oven!?”
