A mighty BIG bug, I’d guess.

There’s a weird bug here in Japan that looks like a cross between a wasp and a moth. It’s huge – the size of a humming bird. That’s probably what tried nesting in Petey’s hair.

Three Steps, I think you’re describing a sphinx moth (hawk moth, hummingbird moth). Was it one of the yellow/orange and black ones, or one of the green ones?

‘They Might Be Giants’ have a song about the bird/bee/moth.

I like the surreal way Alice thinks. And even Madeline tells the story more interestingly than does Petey himself!

Good old Petey. Always exaggerating the facts to get out of everything.

I just got a picture from an aunt of me in 1977. Hair was to my shoulders and beard like a pirate. Now I look like an Insurance Salesman. Oh, I am.

In 1977 I looked like an Insurance Salesman. Today my hair hangs past my shoulder blades. No beard, however, as it turned grey a few years ago.

I’ve seen the hummingbird moth on a summer evening while swimming. I’ve also seen huge caterpillars that were unbelievably large.
