I think it may be a chromosomal thing. My wife insists that we daily replicate temperatures on the North Slope. Our cats have taken to finding a human to sit on since the baseboard heaters are ice covered.

I love the “kid logic” in this one. If the thermostat goes up to 90 degrees, why not turn it up that high?

Cannot blame Calvin’s mom cost to much to keep house warm, dress in layers.

I heat with wood, so when the weather is much colder than normal it’s a bit chilly, but when it’s mild (but still too cool to let the fire go out entirely) it gets warm enough here to run around in T-shirts.

Mom was a very cold natured lady, just the opposite of dad. A happy memory happened a few weeks after they got a new individually controlled electric blanket. One night mom was complaining about being too cold and dad was complaining about being too warm as they kept adjusting their controls. The fussing continued into the next day. Later, while changing the bedding, mom noticed that somehow the controls had been reversed in the headboard. My brother and I never did tell them how they got that way, but my dad would just look at us and wink when the subject would be discussed. He knew what we had been up to and appreciated the resulting spooning in the middle of the bed.

…as to the censorship, methinks gocomics doth protest too much, when they run strips (and that could be a double-entendre) such as Pibgorn, then block all comments on it – the comments from that comic couldn’t possibly match the comic itself for salaciousness…

Big deal- our furnace has been out for two years. It’s 47 degrees in the kitchen right now. We have electric space heaters in the two bedrooms we use, and we stay in those almost all day. To go to the kitchen I put on shirt & t-shirt, and TWO sweaters.

I live in southern Louisiana, so it costs way more to keep the indoor temperature reasonable in the summer than in the winter (for example, it is currently 75 degrees, and I have not used the heat or air in several days). I have found that blackout curtains help immensely because it keeps the endless summer sunlight out, which seems to keep the house cooler.

My home is 70-72. I don’t do cold,and it is my money.

That reminds me of a lady that sometimes clipped out the Ann Landers column if it dealt with something she didn’t want the kids to see. (She later learned the kids would check the paper to see what was cut out and then check it out at their friends house!)Similar story on “Grandfather Bibles” Years ago, some people would glue together pages of the Bible that dealt with subjects they didn’t want the kids to read. Kids would simply note what chapters/verses were glued together and check it out in another Bible. (For some people, I’d bet this was the only parts of the Bible they ever read)

I have my thermostat set at 74 and I still wear a sweater inside during the winter. I also have it at that in the summertime – you get weird when you get older….

As I mentioned on the 25th anniversary of the appearing of this strip:

I thought sweaters were what you wear when your mother is cold.

Jimmy Carter suggested wearing sweaters to achieve energy independence and save money. Not enough people wanted to be bothered. He also used the (very unfortunate) term “moral equivalent of war”, and no one seemed to understand what he was getting at. So here we are, energy dependent and broke.

DS: Don’t know what you did or particularly care as I am a free speech advocate up and to the point that such speech encourages or supports overt violent acts or actions. So, if you didn’t do the latter, welcome back. Note: If it was your past “entertaining comments” that got you in trouble, remember that there is always a better way and a more succinct way of expressing a point of view…it is usually referred to as diplomacy and, is often much more poignant and to the point. Good luck and good fun with your 2nd posting life. PS: It was Sen. OMG Dog…!!! I take ONE lousy day off… (umm, you know MLK day…?) And look what happens… I miss all the monkeyshines… I don’t get to participate in a revolt… I feel so… left out (sob)… brutha I could’a flung what monkey’s are good at flingin’ and now I gotta … oh listen to me… I’m bemoaning my missing the party, but the most important thing is your BACK…!!! DS: Just discovered what you were banned for and it is a very sad commentary, from my POV, on secular law that should better protect freedom of speech and Christian fundamentalism which is today, the tail wagging the dog. If I understand correctly your reference was in context and presented no danger to anyone; therefore it sends up a red flag concerning censorship and, as such, is a very sad and frightening commentary concerning the “Mind Set” of those in power at Gocomics.

I live in South Florida and my AC hasn’t worked for about three years. You get used to it and it saves a lot of money in the summer. My electric bill is actually higher in the winter due to occasional use of space heaters during cold (cool) snaps.

@Dogsniff: Welcome back, my friend. The past few days, this site was reminding me of the time that Calvin lost Hobbes. But in that case, we were more confident that there would be a happy reunion.Don’t know whether anyone has mentioned it yet, but we did have to make one minor concession while you were away. We all told GoComics that you had agreed that if they would reinstate you, you would be willing to join a monastery and become celibate……Anyway, it’s great to see your postings again, and don’t feel too pressured to perform at too high of a level too soon for the dozens, maybe hundreds, perhaps thousands of people who contacted GoComics on your behalf and are all anxiously awaiting incredibly awesome humor from you on a daily basis from now on.:>)

I’m a little late to the game, but welcome back, Dogsniff! I always enjoy your comments, even if they unintentionally irritate others at times. I’ve never been offended, but instead thoroughly entertained. Glad you’re back! :-)

My god, you’d think someone was resurrected. Try to remember folks, it’s a simple little comic strip. Does your life REALLY revolve around this tripe? You mean you’d be in tears if someone was ‘banned’ from commenting? Really? That’s a sad commentary on what’s truly important in your life then. Get a grip on real life. Maybe think about someone that didn’t eat today because they had no food. Someone who walks long distances to learn something IMPORTANT, not even able to call it a school. I think a lot of you need to take a trip to a foreign land where people struggle daily for life. Then take another look at this comic strip here, and tell me how really important it is, and how devastated you’ll be if one of your “favorites” get banned. I hope your little world won’t topple.

……to be honest, I find it refreshing to see such compassion and support for another in this day and age. It should be ENCOURAGED!

I’m just pleased to see that there was a response. Whether it be because the mods monitor all comments (which I doubt, how could there be time?) or because of vox pop response, at least change was effected. So many websites don’t even respond to email or contact. Even online stores sometimes ignore requests for further information, which is pretty dumb.

When I was going to school in DC, I found that the opposite tended to be true: gov. buildings were cooled to 65 in summer, but heated to 72 (at least) in winter.

A sweater doesn’t warm up your nose. That’s where I get the coldest. Next is hands and feet. ….and don’t tell me to wear a ski mask indoors.

I’m really new to this, commenting on on a comic strip,and I’ve been a Calvin and Hobbes fan forever. I was wondering if perhaps I’ve missed some changes Mr. Watterson made. Is this now Calvin, Hobbes and Dogsniff?

No offence to Dogsniff, I know nothing about him/her, but I do know not to say anything negative about him/her on this site without getting torn a new one.
