While stationed in Iran I recived an offical repermand for the replay I made to the french ambassador at a offical party. The ambassador said (this was in 1972) “You americans are not doing very well in your little war in Viet nam.” I replayed, “maby soo but we do not spend 99% of our defence budget for flags of every country in the known world,so you can wave there flag when they take over your country.” When told to write a letter of apology, I showed the american ambassador a litter that remined him that he was the only one who didn"t laugh at my statment. I recived a new repermand, and never sent the apology. I hate the frog goverment.

Famous quotes of Jeanne d’Arc:“Is it warm in here or is it just me?”“I’m too young for hot flashes!”“Build me a fire and you keep me warm for a night. Set me on fire and you keep me warm for the rest of my life.”

@Submarine, I was thinking that too (but my memory of specifics of that war are vauge). At the time, I was just glad that my 3 sons were too young so I didn’t have to send them to Canada (but the 2 eldest wound up with good scolarships anyway).

cdward: Admiral deGrasse did even more, keeping the British from resupplying. indeed, the French revolution was mainly because Louis bankrupted the country by supporting the US.

And “Freedom Fries” are Belgian. I had a French professor who was there during the Hemingway/Stein days and they called them “frites americaine”.
