Wrong. Obama tried the kind of change most of us don’t want and now he is using charm to try to get us to accept it. Doesn’t work. What we need is a change back to sanity. For example, the current administration has passed a huge number of new regulations on business. Add to that Obamacare and you have an economy going nowhere.
agate1. Did I say anything about Bush? But now I will address YOUR actual post. Bush did notice the country going down. The department of HUD that regulates Fannie and Freddie came to Congress and related that they are sure Fannie and Freddie are cooking their books but the regulators don’t have the authority to do a proper audit. The Republicans tried to get a bill introduced that would allow Fannie’s regulator to have the same power as regulators have over commercial banks. The bill never made it to debate because every Democrat on the committee voted against it while every Republican voted for it. Barney Frank made a statement (which is probably still on youtube) saying that Fannie is in good shape and even if it does get in trouble “we” won’t bail it out. If the bill had gone through we would have learned much earlier that Fannie and Freddie were heading for disaster and the congress could have acted on it. Bush actually made several attempts to get things under control but the Democrats controlled congress. Barney Frank supported Fannie and Freddie to the bitter end. That said, I realize that Republicans and Democrats alike were in Fannie’s pocket. One more point. If you know about the origins of the crash, you know that it was the Clinton administration that started forcing banks to make sub prime loans that they didn’t want to make.
Soooo… did EVERYONE but me miss the point of the toon? They are begging, as such they are asking for charm and change, because they don’t have it. They are not offering it…
