I wish people would understand that we have a republic, not a democracy. A democratic republic but not a simple democracy as this cartoon uses. Democracy is just “mob rule” as Jefferson put it.

Whether or not they would take a job from the 1 percent is irrelvant to the FACT that corporate america OWNS our congressmen, and have been given all of the civil liberties as we the people.

you can call them names, or make disparaging remarks about them, but this country has some serious intractable problems created by the relationship between multi-national corporations AND our bought and paid for government.

they deserve accolades for taking to the streets and excercising the one right that multi-nationals might have trouble doing – peacably aseembling and petitioning the government for redress of greivences.

The masses have shown themselves to be irresponsible by passing laws that essentially take from the industrious to give to the indolent. They’ve learned that they don’t have to work for a living. Just spend 4 years at a liberal arts institution at the taxpayers expense, then whine that you are overburdened with loans and ask for the government to forgive the loans. Finally whine that the producers aren’t setting aside enough jobs for your useless skills and ask the government to force those evil corporations to hire you no matter how useless you are.

The corporations, and I work for one, have just as much right to speak to congress as Teachers Unions and the AFL-CIO.

If the Occupy folks are really serious about this, the first thing they need to go is get behind the move to amend the Constitution and do away with the idea that money is speech and Corporations are people.

The majority is attempting to be heard. The minority, who through money and power distribution have taken over BOTH parties (by and large) in our “political system” called “government”, which is actually supposed to be THE PEOPLE, aren’t about to relinquish their control.

In most cases, both the OWS demonstrators, AND the police have actually done a “pretty good” job of controlling themselves. Most of the cases of “police abuse” I’ve seen has been individuals NOT FOLLOWING STANDARD PROCEDURES in “crowd control”, and those few individuals have turned things into “riot”. Just like the few on Wall Street have either broken the rules, or re-written them for their benefit.

“Righties” around the country have tried to make all the demonstrators appear to be the “filthy unwashed”. That happens to be the same “argument” George III came up with in sending in his “redcoats”. Something to think about. It also might be worth noting those “filthy unwashed” demonstrators of my era, have largely BECOME those on Wall Street, writing their own rules. Of course a lot are also the “Goldwater Republicans” who became “Reagan folks”, who Goldwater would disown for their basic dishonesty.

Yes, they’re owned by people…WEALTHY people. Check the folio of any major corporation and you;ll find that the majority of stock is owned by a select few.

And show me WHERE the OWS people are, "ranting against capitalism while practiing capitalism.’

What is wrong with wanting the laws to be written by elects who are not being bribed by the elites to write them? What is wrong with expecting successful money making corporations to pay some income taxes to help their economy crashing country"? http://www.chicagotribune.com/business/breaking/chi-many-companies-pay-no-income-taxes-study-finds-20111103,0,5650434.story

Okay, sure – they pass on the burden and still make a huge profits and big bonuses and then then dodge their responsiblity with loopholes and tax tricks OR get bailed out when they are in trouble. Does that make it right? I don’t like the fair tax because according to my understanding it would put a burden on the human people making more than 30k and less than 200k. That means the poor-er people would be paying more than they are now for overpriced everything, plus the state taxes. How is that affordable under the current circumstances? How is that fair? Plus, do we really trust greedy corporations to drop prices to true pretax cost? I don’t think so. And the other question is… can we trust the government to control spending to keep the tax fixed? I don’t think so.
