One day I was eating lunch at a restaurant and was sitting near a tableful of office workers who were apparently celebrating someone’s birthday. One fellow, whenever anything happened that he thought was funny, would say, “Hyonh. Hyonh. Hyonh. Hyonh. Hyonh.” Always five “hyonhs,” not loud or emotional, just calm and matter of fact. If I’d been single, don’t think I would have wanted to go out with someone who laughed like that.

Anyone seen the Monty Python sketch about the joke that was used as a weapon to fight the Germans? Whoever heard it immediately died laughing. Consequently, translating it from English to German was very tricky.
