The first week of school is always the toughest, and sometimes the second week of school, too; especially with all the new kids trying to find their classrooms and causing traffic jams in the hallways because they have to talk to their friends in the EXACT center of the hall and not off to the side.
At some point Holly will turn into someone like her Aunt Joan and Alix will figure out that she needs to get through grad school to be a Marine Biologist. Now – they’re middle-class kids and prefer the freedom of summer vacation.

I agree that the first week is tough – but the first day is usually exciting. At least I find that true for my elementary aged boys.
