Some Americans are resorting to crime in order to receive free health care in prison. Inmate #1: What're you in for? Inmate #2: Back pain, mostly. And with the job market the way it is, why not live rent-free for a few years? Inmate #3: I was paying $1,200 a month for this in Frisco - and my roommate was scarier. The prison system is the last place the unemployed can go to live the American dream. Book learnin' Gym membership Recommended daily intake of vegetables LAW Guard: Sure, it's overcrowded. That's because it's so darn popular! PRISON: the secret's out

What happened to the chain gang, the ACLU?

This is based on a true story that a guy did a robbery in order to get into prison and get healthcare. Prison has been shown numerous times NOT to do what it is meant to do — rehabilitate. It takes minor crooks and makes them major ones. Prisoners are frequently abused violently and sexually — and if you think that is appropriate punishment for someone convicted for holding a bag of marijuana, you are a sick puppy. We need universal healthcare. We also need to stop this absurd “war on drugs” that forces judges to send minor violators of silly laws to prison, which in turn perpetuates the prison industry, since many prisons are now run by private organizations that are promoting stricter sentencing guidelines and laws! Yes, the free market in action: they are paying lobbyists to stiffen the laws so they get more “customers,” paid for by the public.

I’ve actually considered it…

Sheriff Joe Arpaio in Arizona has the right idea! Pink underwear for the prisoners and they’re housed in tents in the desert.

An unfortunate truth.

I don’t know if I ever want to go to prison for health care. All that butt sex doesn’t sound appetizing to me.

To all who objected to my priior post — the criminals rounded up by Sheriff Joe are the pigs! They’re rats, they’re vermin. And they deserve to be treated as such! Enough with the ACLU and all that liberal crap!

Do don’t get it do you Harlan? Things are as peaceful as they are in prison because of the concessions (TV, A/C, …). It would be much much worse without them. To many times I’ve heard parolees say if you were not a racist going in you will be coming out. There is also a thing called fair punishment. Life because you’re third strike is stealing bread? No. No. No. Prison is an older than old school solution that should be limited to the worst. We need to find something else for the others.

I’ve put people in jail, many of them went on to long stays in prison. While “real bad dudes/dudettes” don’t deserve some of the “privileges” we no grant, rehabilitation DOES work for most minor offenders. As one told me after he got out, “It was a learning experience, and I NEVER want to do anything that would send me back there.” The simple deprivation of freedom, and living in a small cell is NOT a good experience, and one factor in turning some “minor offenders” into long term nut cases with severe “mental and societal” problems, if they punishment exceeds the “crime”.

In the great state of Flori-duh if I were to get caught with a nickle bag I’d be facing up to 5 years and a fine of $1,000 (a misdemeanor). That’s not including the other charges that come with it like being within 200 feet of a college or God forbid 1,000 feet near a school. Its like I said before the biggest side effect of smoking pot is jail.
