One person’s opinion was “The U.S. made the mess; it’s their moral duty to stay and clean it up.” Ummmm… they seem to forget being the safe haven for Al Qaeda. Colin Powell’s Pottery Barn analogy was much more suited to Iraq, an unprovoked war of choice.
Or maybe more accurately, cultural and political change that is imposed from the outside rarely, if ever, succeeds. See the former Soviet Union for a salient example.
Just get out while you have the golden opportunity. Stable government and national security take money and will, neither of which the Afghans have. But so what – what is, is, and that’s not going to change in the foreseeable future.
