That pretty much sums up the attitude of nearly every right-winger on this board: what’s wrong for a Dem is excusable. or even praiseworthy, in a Republican

Clarence was bought from the beginning. Watch out for those Coke cans, too.

Your hypocrisy is overwhelming. Or is it your ignorance? Or both? Conflict of interest rules would normally require that a justice recuse him/herself if a family member (doesn’t matter what gender) is employed by someone whose issues come before the court. Reporting their income is rather important in a legal sense.

Thomas is simply the worst appointment to the court in 200 years, period. He is Arlen Specter’s curse on America. At least even Scalia and Alito have at least taken the time to READ the Constitution— they don’t LIKE it any better than Thomas, but they read it.

vortex, you don’t get it. It is fine to have a spouse to have a life independent of her husband. What is NOT okay is for that husband to pretend he is objective when judging cases when he is clearly compromised. Standard operating procedure is to recuse oneself from cases on which you might be less objective. Thomas has not only not done this, he has refused to do this when pointed out and has hidden the fact of his conflict of interest. Scalia is pretty shameless about this, too, but Thomas is world-class. He deserves impeachment, but probably won’t get it.

Swirly, the issue is: no problem a wife having a life INDEPENDENT of her husband, it’s when her HUSBAND’S CONNECTIONS provide her sources of income that there’s a question of propriety, and legality.
