There’s more to this than Gertie has revealed. And it was an odd proposal by Earl, to be sure, very off the cuff.

You gotta give Gertie credit though. She has the talent to drive a stake through a man’s heart AND be a comedienne, both at the same time. Earl should give up on Gertie and make advances toward Gretchen Skinner. THAT would be an memorable storyline!

Maybe a good, long discussion about their past experiences would set things right. If the reasons behind Earl’s haste and Gertie’s hesitation were revealed, an understanding might result.

I never said the date was off Earl, but who’s paying for it?

Of all the old time comics that do running stories that are still being written; Judge Parker, Gil Thorp, Rex Morgan, Dick Tracy, Alley Oop and so on, GA is consistently among the best. First off it is superbly drawn. And even though some may disagree the stories are consistent and interesting. My favorite aspect of GA is how real it feels. I can care about Gertie and Bird (and everyone else in the cast) and feel bad that Gertie is crying. Yeah, I know, I’m all soppy. But I don’t care. It’s just that good.

Right no Dypack!! I think GA is one of the top comics around ESPECIALLY with Bird and Gertie. The drawings and the plot is fantastic. I’m hoping Jim Scancarelli reads these posts, as he needs to know that there is others out there that do like this storyline and newer characters. Good job Jim….keep up the good work and ignore the habitual complainers.

ORteka says: … ignore the habitual complainers ———————————– The “habitual complainers” you are whining about are long-time fans of Gasoline Alley who are disgusted by the current story arc’s departure from what made GA great: stories about the Wallet family. If the author of the strip does by some chance read the comments, I hope he takes them to heart and ends this arc STAT!

As to today’s strip: despite the fact that it seems this story arc has been going on for months, Earl and Gertie have only known each other a few days. The fact that Earl proposed boggles one’s mind! All this blubbering by Gertie and moondogging by Earl makes absolutely no sense at all.

fwdixon, Obviously I line up in the camp that loves the current GA, but it is nice to see some reasoned comments from the other side. I don’t agree, but at least you express your views well– except for the “whining” comment which is misdirected. Jim does a lot with 3 panels a day. You don’t get “real life” at that dosage, but you do get an amazingly disproportionate amount of entertainment!
