My kudos to former Pres. Clinton and all those who arranged for this behind the scenes.

It was so heartwarming to see those two young women come home.

Yeah, they must really be pissed at President Clinton for getting them released from ten years of being degraded and raped by prison guards in a totalitarian country. Wingnuts cannot credit Democrats or progressives for anything, I guess. Anyway, God bless Ling and Lee, I was one of millions praying for them, and our prayers were answered.

Let me preface my comment by saying that I am no fan of Dana Summers’ political perspective and I think that Bill is a great diplomat. On the other hand, I do find this funny. Bill, plain and simple, is a skirt chaser. For me, the humor of this toon comes from accepting Bill as a complex human being, one who has many great attributes, as well as some serious flaws.

Courage, my opinion is the opposite. I think that rather than amusingly showing Bill Clinton as complex, it just throws that simplistic “he’s a womanizer”. No more thought than that.

I find it upsetting that the women in the cartoon don’t want to be left alone w/Bill Clinton, that they’d feel safer in North Korea, and can’t be in an airplane with him without being raped or hurt in some way. It’s disgusting and avoids complexity at all. Even the two journalists should find this ugly. Their experience was that of being rescued, not of being subjected to sneering gropes.

It’s just a toon, but it’s interesting how people will just defend it just because.

EZDeb: “You were viciously enthralled with years of impeachment proceedings against the president for having consensual gropage (and lying about it).”

Juanita Broaddrick said Clinton raped her, that is certainly not consensual. He was impeached not for sex crimes but for lying before a Federal Grand Jury.

Ms. Broaddrick may say whatever she wants, that doesn’t mean it is right. I read people accuse the Clintons of everything from smuggling to murder, but hey, the US is a big nation, there are bound to be a few hopeless kooks. Anyway, if the cartoon has any basis in reality, the ladies in the second panel are screaming with joy ;) .

As for Clinton’s impeachment… it was an overblown, overcostly joke. It was Clinton’s fault that he cheated on his wife and then lied about it, sure, but why on Earth would a court jury need to ask about it in the first place? And don’t get me started on all the hypocricy and finger-pointing about it.

I will take a diplomacy competent “skirt chaser” any day, over a “war lover” who ran and hid in Alabama when his turn came to serve. This is a tired effort when compared to the accomplishment.

(Another “war lover” with five deferments actively sought (orchestrated) because “I had better things to do”, as opposed to one granted to a Rhodes Scholar seeking an education in diplomacy, with a high draft number anyway, are also not the same thing.)

    GNW, NO, NO, NO.

The accusation of rape is not so “special” that normal defenses should be denied the defendant.

What I’ve said is that the judicial system used to abuse rape victims twice by allowing defendant’s attorneys to drag every consenting sexual experience in the victim’s past into a trial, as if the fact that a woman was sexually active made rape less possible. One — consenting sexual activity — has nothing to do with the other — forcible rape.

And nowhere did I ever suggest that if a claim is made against a “likable” defendant, no charges should be brought.

I don’t remember the specifics of Broadrrick and don’t care right now, but I do recall she said many different things at different times and couldn’t make up her own mind whether there was even an allegation or not. No charges were ever brought because there wasn’t sufficient credible evidence.

I’m appalled at your twisting of my words … next time, use your own words.

GNW …. use MY words, not yours … what is appalling?

and your analogy is faulty … the proper analogy to what I talked about would be if the woman charging Alpert was allowed to be interrogated in court about any time a man had ever “bitten” or touched or stroked or kissed, etc. her behind in her life.

I do indeed have a resentment of women falsely accusing men of rape. I have a resentment of women falsely accusing their ex-husbands of child abuse to get custody. I resent women waking up the morning after and deciding their yes from last night would have been better to have been a no and charge date rape.

It used to be when an accusation was made everyone believed why would a woman go through the notoriety unless it is true. Now a very significant percentage of accusations are false. We need to allow all defenses to prove the falsity.

The bedrock of American criminal system is it is better to free 10 guilty than to jail one innocent. The exception is a woman’s charge of rape.

Look at the Duke LaCrosse case and the broad defense of the accuser not because the men were actually guilty but that they were white and privileged. The all men are guilty of rape because of men’s superiority in society and therefore women can’t make a free choice. Yes, I resent that.

False accusations of rape, murder, burglery, animal abuse, and lots of other crimes are not allowed, no, gnw.

Let’s see. Here’s my point. The middle east tradition of shunning women who’ve been “shamed” by being raped is not so very far removed from the many women in our society, for it’s entire history, who were sent away to bear illigitimate children out of the community’s sight or forced to be quiet for their entire lives because of the shame they had caused for their family.

I’ll repeat. The word notoriety is important in your post and your attitude. Your red herring about false accusations is invalid.

If you don’t accept false accusations then why not allow the defense to try and prove they are false. You haven’t answered in the very specific Marv Alpert case. The woman has made the exact same accusations over a dozen times but the defense was not allowed to bring that up.

Do you still believe the Duke Lacrose players were guilty. If not then there was another false accusation with NO downside. She lied-lied- lied and nothing happened to her.

You are living in america from 50 years ago. Women lie all the time. Why not? they get the children, they blackmail, they get revenge with nothing to lose. Tell me one example where after a woman lied she got any punishment. Duke, Tawna Brawley. Every single time a man is found not guilty the jury partially believes she may be lying.

    ezdeb  over 14 years ago

gnw, please read my pixels. The Duke players were unfairly accused. The rape victim’s story did not hold up. That is true.

Why are you fixated on the Duke case? The reason is that it’s one of very few times that a rape victim was actually documented as trying to manipulate the situation. It was big news because it was news. Also, because it had to do with white players and a black victim, rich vs poor and sex, it naturally attracted the media and got a lot more attention than the hundreds or thousands of “non-news” rape stories around this country every day and every year where the victim was just a victim, she didn’t lie, tried to do the best she could, didn’t narrow her eyes and rub her palms and wonder what man she could now get to PAY FOR THIS, now that she’s been lucky enough to be raped and provided this opportunity. Such seems to be your fantasy.

In general, and read carefully, because this is the point, K? The incidence of false accusation and false arrest in cases of rape is no more frequent than false accusation in any other genre of crime. Women aren’t out to entrap men any more than men are all lying in wait to rape women, OK?

I don’t actually know what happened to the woman in the Duke case. I don’t really care. You evidently care A LOT.

    From Wiki:

In 1994, Dr. Eugene J. Kanin of Purdue University investigated the incidences of false rape allegations made to the police in one small urban community between 1978 and 1987. He states that unlike those in many larger jurisdictions, this police department had the resources to “seriously record and pursue to closure all rape complaints, regardless of their merits.” He further states each investigation “always involves a serious offer to polygraph the complainants and the suspects.” and “the complainant must admit that no rape had occurred. She is the sole agent who can say that the rape charge is false.” The falseness of the allegations was not decided by the police, Dr. Kanin, nor upon physical or testimonial evidence. The number of false rape allegations in the studied period was 45; this was 41% of the 109 total complaints filed in this period.”

Read that carefully In 41% the accuser herself admitted the charges were false.

^ OK BCS also from the NYT of today.

Texan Is Released After 23 Years A 46-year-old man walked out of prison in Houston Friday after spending 23 years behind bars for a sex crime that the evidence suggests he did not commit. The man, Ernest Sonnier, was sentenced to life in prison largely on the strength of the victim’s testimony, even though evidence showed that someone with a different blood type had raped her, lawyers said. Judge Michael McSpadden of Harris County District Court ordered Sonnier to be freed pending further investigation. (NYT

gnw is tolerant of the CONCEPT of women, as well as that of liberalism, considers himself one of the educated (elite, possibly, from his choosing to name the universities he’s paid into), he is evidently tolerant only to the theories or concepts of these; when one debates them in actuality, he becomes a righteous, insulting prig who has no problem instantly separating and putting himself above those he “tolerates.”

TEAG, Bill Clinton is not a lecher. If so, 99.99999% of America is lecherous. Because his indiscretion was grabbed in a Republican/MSM feeding frenzy for years and the issue was repeated all over all the media all the time, yeah, that’s the reputation that comes out. Now, if any one of the leading Republican figures had had the same media/opposition treatment, like Newt Gingrich, we’d be saying he’s a lecher. It betrays your simpleness. Which disparaging one-word catch-all would we use to describe YOU?

I have no patience whatsoever for people who believe the world is conspiring to specifically harm them. The US is the most wonderful country the world has ever seen. We are not perfect in many many ways but we are by far the best out there.

Liberals truly believe the world owes them not only a living but food, clothes, medication, housing, a car, a TV, an iPod and everything else we have developed. If you don’t have that, it is your problem not mine. When I was working 3 jobs and 18 hour days for 40 years I didn’t ask for your help and certainly now don’t want to subsidize your current fantasy desires.

Since I’ve been a liberal for about 40 years now, when do you expect I’ll let my eyes glaze over and forget where I work and apply for benefit after benefit just…cuz. Oh, and I must remember to falsely accuse a man of raping me soon, cuz I’m way behind gnw’s statistical curve on that one too!
