    Many buyers of guns did not understand how to maintain them. Gun dealers would often swap one good gun for two or three nonfunctional guns. Often all the guns needed was to be cleaned and they were ready to be traded or sold again.

    The Soviet 1947 Avtomát Kaláshnikova, AK-47 made that less of a problem because of their substantial reliability under harsh conditions, low production costs compared to contemporary Western weapons, availability in virtually every geographic region and ease of use.

    “Of the estimated 500 million firearms worldwide, approximately 100 million belong to the Kalashnikov family, three-quarters of which are AK-47s.”

    The monkey’s pistol seems to carry more rounds than an AK-47, though.
