Wally’s been carrying around a lot of baggage (not the backpack) for a long time. Interesting how each views their situation; acceptance and denial. And I gotta admit – my curiosity about the “real” Wally is killin’ me!
I know this might sound silly, but did any furries well become a furry? In other words was anyone super happy they mutated? I know Holly has accepted it, but I mean once past the shock if anyone was generally thrilled by it. I wonder if any of the mutants/humans ostracized them for being weird and not traumatized by it.
She makes a good point. If anything, a photo is even less of a person than a furry remaking of one’s body. A person simply isn’t defined by the sum of his physical attributes.
hmm…wally may have something. while i am a fan of anthropomorphic comics and a major fan of one feline character in particular for almost thirty years (thank you , steve gallacci) i don’t think i’d be able to come to grips with myself if i woke up one morning and found myself in a fursuit i couldn’t remove, either.
I love the comparison between Wally and Holly. His inner turmoil and his inability to accept who he is on the outside and her ability to accept and deal with what she is now..Amazing!!! I wonder how Holly is able to come to terms on what she is now and maybe she can share those tools with Wally too.
Well, the first storyline revealed the guy who invented the disintegration rays—- not the virus. The virus’ origins are still a mystery… And you gotta wonder what the long-term strategy was for THAT. A virus that kills or cripples enemy troops has military applications. A virus that converts enemy troops into theme-park characters, or mindless monsters? Nnnnot so practical a weapon.Looks like the poor fellow’s suffering from dysmorphia. We have that IRL—- it’s associated with conditions like anorexia or bulimia, plastic surgery addiction, hypertrophy (bodybuilding addiction), etc. It’s a powerful disassociation of self from the body, an inability to see what’s in the mirror as “the real you.” Your reflection’s too fat, too scrawny, too ugly, etc…. one can imagine how common it would be in a world of mass body transmogrification.
@Franz Obern:I’m pretty sure that the Topsiders are genetic purists. Any physical defect that could have a genetic cause, like short sight, would be grounds for zapping.
Poor Wally…It’s going to be hard, but Holly’s steadfast acceptance MIGHT rub off on Wally. If you get absorbed in helping other’s problems, it MIGHT help you adjust to your own. That’s why volunteering for something helps your own depression.
